pictures could also help.

the skin you may want to dry brush with goblin green to add a hightlight.

I like to go over the yellow islanded foundation with some golden yellow. Also wash the whole thing with devlin mud to give it that nice dirty ork weapon look. Also good on the ork skin seems to tie the whole model together.

Straight yellow on black tends to get this weird highlitery look. Maybe do an intermediate brown before you paint yellow.
Quoted for truth.

A medium brown like bestial brown or bubonic brown create a solid base for yellow to work.

Devlin mud wash for a darker, heavier highlighted yellow. Gryphonne sepia for an orangery (is that even a word?) yellow. Or ogryn flesh wash for a lighter highlighted yellow.

I'm painting up a tribe of Deathskulls at the moment. I want colours from both Bad Moons and Evil Suns to show pilfering at its best.

I have found Iyanden Darksun to simply be too 'heavy' a yellow colour. Its quite a bold colour. GW recommends you add water to the paint a bit so that its not as thick but not too runny (a big help from them). I then add sunburst yellow over that but have found this to be too bright. My next step is to get some wash for over the top as many people are recommending this. Yellow is a tough colour, good luck.
