So, i was thinking about this list, although i 've never actually tested it in game.

HQ
1x CCS 50pts
Master of the ordnance 30pts

TROOPS
*1x Veterans squad
(demolition charge, 3x meltagun) 130pts
*1x Veterans squad
(demolition charge, 3x meltagun) 130pts

ELITES (none)

FAST ATTACK
* 1x Vendetta gunship (tri-las setup) 130pts
* 1x Valkyrie (with missile pods) 130pts
* 1x Hellhound squadron
1x Hellhound with multi-melta 145pts
1x Hellhound with multi-melta 145pts

HEAVY SUPPORT
* 1x Leman russ Demolisher squadron
1x Demolisher with lascannon 180pts
1x Demolisher with lascannon 180pts
(no side spons for both)

* 1x Ordnance Battery
1x Basilisk (with bolter) 125pts
1x Basilisk (with bolter) 125pts

* 1x Leman russ executioner 230pts
+Plasma side sponsons


Total 1730 pts.
The idea was to have loads of large blasts, many of which have a reasonable range, and create a tank-armor coherence that will require a decent amount of antitank weaponry to die. The drawback is abviously that with such a list you have a very small number of models on the game board.
Hence the army will easily lose abjectives. I would be really interested in hearing any opinions about changes that could improove this list.

Plenty of good builds in there but I don't like some things, squadroning for example, but changing that would upset your theme/plans too much..I would rather spend the points on more Mech - Infantry units myself (and I love Russes).

If you get first turn you will cause some mayhem that's for sure, but once those squadrons start taking hits your firepower will diminish quickly. I don't squadron up until 2250/2500, preferring to fill my Troop slots first.

Sounds good, though I am also thinking of a manticore besides medusas. Extra vets in a chimera over a hellhound are what i had in mind as well. I thought about dropping both hellhounds and add a platoon, but i am more into mobility.

I prefer the specialist Artillery to the Bassie..using up a HS slot so might as well field something that performs a role well, be it anti-infantry or anti-tank, although the Manticore does them both well, certainly better than a Bassie.

Bassies are great in Apoc though..that extra distance helps on massive boards like I play on.

Indeed, the basilisks are a bit vulnerable in small boards. The manticore gives an averange of 2 blasts per round, without it being a squadron. And it will save some points over the 2 basilisks. The only squadron i wouldnt change is the demolishers.

Both are good ideas. I like your list, though I reckon you would need at least one more squad of troops to hold objectives well. Otherwise you run too much risk of having your troops all wiped out early.

Fair enough. A Manticore is easily better than two Basalisks in all regards except AP.
