Last year the heat i went to had a ridiculous amounts of skimmer spam. This year heat 2 had a lot. So i guess the other heats will make up for it and next year there'll be a heat that all the taudar players go to as well (no doubt the same one as me again). So yeah, i expect a lot more marines at heat 3.

I didnt take Space Wolves btw. They screwed my list choice up despite being told I was taking Codex Marines...

I thought it was the most balanced well represented heat i've been to. There was a great mix of armies, plenty of everything really. I just managed to face off with 4 Marine lists again... I always end up facing more of them than I should (statistically).

I think there will be a sudden rush of ppl painting pink nid armies........

TBH i think the balance of lists will pretty much be the same assuming that the "regular" tourney have similar thoughts on either Tau, Eldar or CSM. Else destroyer spam to counter it. Pretty much what happened at our heat in otherwords (which is kinda what ppl expected).

As for Tau i point you at my final last year 5 Tau and 1 Tyranid army faced.

I didnt play any Tau but i'd fancy the Marine list I took to slap em about a bit.

I never draw Tau at the GT, 3 Seasons and not a single tau opponent?

24 Games... :shok:
Ha and i was really hoping to play you with my tau as well as i fancied the look of those speeders

On a complete opposite to your experience, final last year i played 3 games against tau, this heat 1 tau and 3 eldar. And yes i was bloody glad of all that S7 shooting i have. Screw triple railgun heavy supports!

Where there any non 3falcon/prism eldar armies. And how did they do!
The first eldar player i played had two prisms and three war walkers, didnt qualify. The last game i played was against a falcon and two vibros and just scraped qualification. Also Ugo Olivetti's eldar had a falcon and four vibros IIRC. Other than that, nearly every other eldar i saw had three holofield tanks.

I do think the eldar codex is excellent and that ppl can win without the use of 3falcon/prism. But the codex slants so that if you dont take 3 heavy support(the best of eldar) u're in for a tough ride. I mean there HS is the core of the army. Warwalkers, Falcons, Prisms, Wraithlords, Reapers(note v. rare).

But my point is I do not thing an eldar player could create a list without 3HS and say its the best list he/she could come up with!

Any thoughts

I agree about the eldar point TBH I think you'd have to be pretty stupid not to take 3 holofielded nasties as they're pretty much the best units in the game.... and you can't exactly load up on other goodies in the eldar dex by not taking falcons as the other best units are in the elites section which you can fill out quite nicely with 3 falcons etc etc.... rant over lol ;)

Back on topic - does anyone know what the 2 Imperial Guard armies in the top 40 were like? Balanced, drop troop what?

Cheers

Malchek ;)

Nah, you don't need 3 Falcons as the prisms are very good as well. Interestingly enough no-one really complains about holo-fields on the prisms that much.

I can't but then I've favoured the mech style since before the new codex came out. My current list was actually my first attempt at one out of the new codex and was made by adapting the old one to use the new toys.

The falcon's haven't changed that much although the changes to spirit stones is a help they are still being used much more [it seems at any rate], infact many of the other heavy support options have became more attractive. The prism is the one you see used most, but still warwalkers, reapers, vibro's are all much better. Argueably wraithlords are better in that they can take 2 hvy weapons and with the rules that were in force for the gt about units coming on from the edges don't suffer so much in escalation.

However I can see more chaos being at heat 3, but who knows. Someone has done the hard work no of testing out the lash list and coming first at a heat. Now you'll get alot of people who will copy that template, and take it to the heats/finals.

yes, at heat 3 i wud luv to face a lash list, as all my army are in skimmers or jetbikes:biggrin:

BTW well done to all those that qualified. Also what was the terrain like (top 20 tables) as i am really worried about hiding 5 skimmers in gamma!

I think the difference is that you can't spam starcannons and have the Seer Council any more. Ulthwe were the powergamers Eldar army of choice under the old codex, now that they're gone something has to fill that vacuum. The option to Banshee/Dragon bomb was still there under the old codex just that Ulthwe was harder and now there are space clowns.

I finished 16th with my termie heavy marines going 4-1-1. Managed to beat Tau and lash on the way so I was happy :)

The Imperial Guard I played against in the last game had a pretty balanced list focused around not failing morale tests, lascannons and a healthy quantity of rough riders.

Plenty of skimmer eldar about and one completely harlequin list with eldrad and 2xpathfinders as the only units you can reliably see. Necrons did well, with 15x destroyer armies being successful, though probably dies to lash?

Whats up with the lack of Daemonhunters?? I only saw 3 on the total list of players and they were like 88, 136, and 146.. That is sad.. Tho I did see a list listed as Daemon Host.. what is that?? Only thing I can think of is Daemonhunters with a radical inquisitor and Daemonhosts..

Man its a sad sad day in Grey Knight ville if thats all the showing they could muster... must need a new codex..
