I know there is lax players that come to this board in addition to players who play and like to win. I was thinking, maybe you could add a board that only selected players, ones who take things serious, can type using whole sentences, and have an adult mindset could populate.

Maybe set it up where they have to be a contributer to the site, hidden from normal people, hell maybe even take a test one basic and some advance rules from the BBB to enter. Keep membership semi-slim 50-60 people and write a rule set that people have to follow (no flaming, no getting shitty with a person when they give you ideas on your build, army bashing, shit like that).

What are all of your thoughts?

The site's young. I think setting up an elite forum is bad news. It'll spread posts even wider than they currently are.

I considered adding an adult forum before but the mod team have always opposed it. I'd love to have an unmoderated forum where people can say, post or do whatever they want but it's never going to work. Someone came into Jigplums games workshop and complained about my Porn Forum thread in the supporter forums. Sadly, running a Games Workshop hobby site means conforming to the bullshit rules they lay down on their IP page.

The best thing to do to improve the site is post on Warseer with Sig Links (something I havent been doing much recently actually). More members = more content.

really? who?

and anyway, this 'endgame' forum is pretty unmoderated...none of the mods have access.

I think an elite forum is a bad idea for a couple reasons.

First off, like them or not, the nooblets NEED the vets around to show them where they're fucking up and answer their questions, (and face it, we need them to boost our egos ;-) ). So sequestering everyone who knows what they're talking about is only going to make the others worse.

Menawhile, the forums will stagnate because the vets don't really need many rules answers or tactical suggestions, so discussions in there are going to be sparse and dull, moreso because of the 'select' (read small) population. And with the vets paying less attention to the noobs, the other forums get worse.

Also, who the hell is going to select these 'elite' players and what're the criteria? That's going to lead to pissed off members who didn't get chosen and animosity towards those who were picked.

No thanks.

Meanwhile, last I checked, use of leet speak and internet English are already against the rules. If you see someone abusing the language then tell them, TACTFULLY, that lazy typing is against the rules and tends to make people not want to read your posts or answer your questions. I've done it before and it usually works. just remind them it's not a chatroom and there is plenty of time to use whole words. Be sure to tell them that nobody expects perfect spelling or grammar, but you should at least use whole words and make every attempt to be articulate.

If the kid continues to be annoying or starts throwing a fit, then report the little shit. I've done that before too.

Really, if you want to improve the quality of discourse, knowledge of the players, and readability of the posts, then get off your butt and go help those kids get better, smarter and more serious.

Well nice to know I can let my language out a little bit more.. I;ve kinda been watching it because I dont want to offend people and afraid if I did I might be banned. Im not gonna cut loose like a sailor or anything but at least I feel a little more free.

On to the topic at hand.. while I do personally like the idea of a super secret squirrel club for the mature population I aggree with Gal here that it would be detrimental to the site as a whole by occupying us away from the kiddies who need the help and the good mature role models as well as just general exposure.

Except the mods who donate ;-)

But I think some people feel it should be more elite, where members are invited. Frankly, I think that's just asking for trouble for a number of reasons.

OK I was more or less saying build a team, yes invite only, they would have to be a supporter, and we would talk about strategy, not remove ourselves from the forums proper. It would be a place for us, as a team, to prepare ourselves better for tournament play. I was a member of the top team in another game and since we were from all over the world we never stepped on the other members toes except when we met at World or international events. That is what I am purposing to management. Basically an addition forum that is part of the subscriber account that you can only gain if you are 1. Knowledgable, helpful on the boards, want to be a subscriber (also helping the site), and want to excel on the tournament scene.

So what's wrong with just posting in Tactics or Endgame?

Once you start picking and choosing who's 'worthy' of sharing webspace with you you're just asking for trouble.

Forget isolating us from those who need our help, what about slapping the face of everyone you don't feel is worthy?

Sorry, mate, but that just sounds like trouble to me.

You want to discuss tactics, start a thread in tactics. Don't like what a certain poster or posters have to suggest, then don't listen to them.

I mean, endgame is one thing...we all ponied up the dough, this is an additional feature we paid for. But anyone who can afford it is welcome here just like in the other forums.

IMO, the only time invites should be sent out to 'quality' members of the community only is if it's an invitation to join the mod team.

Firstly, i really like the way the thread is playing out, basically starting off with what is in many ways a good idea, but probably isn't quite right as part of our forum in the way it was first suggested. Like most people have pointed out, it can be percieved as elitist and cliqueey by some which will put them off and can lead to snobby superiorness in some cases. Also it can lead to neglect in other areas of the forum, and create an unappealing atmosphere for other users.

However that said we are building a similar thing on the forum although not quite the same thing. TEAM HERESY: Its not invite only, but is there for any forum member to join up if they are a tournament goer. Ideally this will mean there are a group of us who will met up a few times a year to attend tournaments/campaigns etc together and share in the group atmosphere. ALso we can all post and help each other out with army lists tactics etc for up and coming tournaments. Even total newbies can join, afterall everyone started somewhere, and those ultra-talented amoung us ;) can help start these guys towards the road of tournament greatness with our sound tactical advice, list building skills and wealth of experience.

Theres no reason that this should be confined to the uk tournament goers just because me and jez are here to spearhead the team. Any of our members can be part of the team, and hopefully as we grow we will have mini communities throughout the world that will meet up at there own countries events. The rest of us can still offer advice etc to our overseas team members and share in the glorys back here on the forum after the dust has settled and the final dice have rolled there last roll.

This should be better for all of us, as our tournment sucess brings members to the site who have heard of the infamous jigplums and his mate jiglad?? or jezplums?? whatever his name was....and the site will get better posters as our TEAM gains more and more knowledge and experince with which to help the newer and veteran posters of the site.

Hmm running with the Team Heresy Idea...

Could we have something in the username like TH or something.. to identify each other, and to show we arn't a total novice and play fairly but competitivly...

The Idea of having an Elitist or seperate forum for tourny players only, for me, seems a bad idea... it will only achieve one thing and thats devision in the forum, but with say a TH username thingybobby, we could Idenify each other and respond accordingly, or have a seperate hidden forum, invite only.. although, that could also lead to division as mentioned before...

sorry for that rambled mess of a post, I was just spouting things off the top of my head, lol.
