After setting up three autocannon HWTs today, I realized I had a good amount of spare parts left. I grabbed an empty infantry sprue, cut it up with a knife, arranged it into an octagonal chest-high fortification, approximately 30x30mm, and started building a 360 twin-linked heavy bolter turret on it. I still have to finish it, and it's been fun to do something out of nothing, but I just realized... it is totally useless! I just read the Turret Emplacement rules, which costs as much as a tank, but lacks everything a tank has... Then I read the Tarantula rules... BS 2 and glancing hits kill it automatically?! Sure, it's cheap... But useless.
OK so... is there any way I can use this cute little chap? I still have three missile launchers, lascannons and mortars, and one more heavy bolter, so I can make some more if I can field it right, or make the turret magnetic for weapon hot-swapping.

The reason that IA stuff is crap/expensive, is because it's flavoursome.

Games Workshop don't want to see people turning up to games with 90pt Vanquishers in a tournament list.

It's meant to be a fun unit, or strategic location for a dedicated player keen on creating a story rather than taking the rules to the hilt, maxminning his army.

objective markers? Bunkers?
Hell it's perfect for Planet strike.

what list are you reading from that has 90pts vanquishers?

and I don't see how its useless, a twin-linked heavy bolter emplacement is 90pts, and a troops choice in a game allowing fortifications (planetstrike), so you could take multiple and still have plenty of slots left for platoons, it would add to the defence and most importantly, it would look and be fun.

*listens to the sounds of shock and mumblings of discontent at the sound of the dreaded F word*

I did something similar for our CoD board..place them on Ruins just to add 'flavour'...they are made to look destroyed etc so it's not confusing for any casual players who play on it, they're just a part of the scenery.

Adds a realistic effect I reckon.

Thanks for the help, everyone. I'll give it a go in my next game, as a Turret Emplacement, and I'll let you know how it goes.
Snap a few pic's and put them up in the modeling/painting section, would love to see it.
I'll snap off pics of my entire army as soon as my camera is fixed. Will update the thread with pics.

In unofficial games, you may place it in objectives as a neutral "freebie": a unit in base contact could choose to have one of its models fire the emplaced gun instead of his own, provided the unit didn't move, just as if it was a heavy weapon. The catch is, either side could use it, so it would add an extra dynamic to objective capture or hold ground gametypes.
