Hey guys i have just joined the forums after a bit of browsing and loving filling my head will everything 40k :eek:k:.
I dont know if this is the right place but i am starting to collect a Space Wolf Great Company, mainly for the painting/converting project and move to the gaming side later, and was after more input/ideas as to what/how many etc. I like the idea of Bran Redmaw in the Codex fluff (MoTW heavy troops), so far i have:
1 Wolf Lord
20 Wolf Guard (10 Terminator)
30 Blood Claws (2 packs of 15)
60 Grey Hunters (6 Packs of 10)
15-20 Long Fangs (3-4 Packs of 5)
I have not included Rune Priests, Wolf Priests etc. cos they are controlled by The Big Dog.
i am thinking about including transport but no idea what or how many.
Any reply or ideas would be very welcome :drinks:

Actually this is the correct forum if your asking about how many of these things you'd require from a fluff perspective (which you appear to be).

The SW Great Companys are not uniform in their organisation like the Battle Companies of Codex Chapters so there is no right or wrong answer in regards to how many transports/landspeeders/scouts etc to include- though I would suggest you keep the total below 200 Marines (I'm sure that won't be difficult ) as Ragnar Blackmane's Great Company is described as the largest after the Great Wolf's with 200 warriors.

This is one instance where the SW's codex doesn't really fit with the fuff, unless you are going to play just for fun. The codex limits the MOTW being used and it's not even available to quite a few units. Bran's company is meant to have a higher rate of MOTW so it's a shame no allowance is made for this within the codex. Bran himself is said to be afflicted so in theory any of his company could carry the MOTW although the codex doesn't reflect this.

With regards to company size. This is where I deviate from Baron's train of thought. The codex specifically states Ragnar has 200 battle hardened warriors. By defintion this would mean Grey Hunter & above as only after a SW is battle hardened can he progress from a Claw unit, Lukas being the exception and maybe a few others. I would wager Ragnar's company would have a healthy amount of Claw units on top of the 200 to keep the great company supply chain going.

From what i get from the fluff, 20 Wolf Guard is it really being the 'bodyguard' of the Wolf Lord, Long Fangs are the smallest packs (Grey Hunters getting killed before getting old/wise enough), Grey Hunters are the back bone of the company, Blood Claws have the biggest packs as a few get killed before becoming GH. Game terms ya cant really field a full company due to the force organisation, and Logan Grimnar controling all the Priests and Scouts (if i read it right)

He controls all the Priests, as well as his own company, but the scouts are in every company the same as grey hunters et al.

Once you start getting close to filling out the FOC with Marines (of any sort) your damn close, if not past, the Apocalypse suggested minimum of 3k pts at which time the FOC no longer exists.
