I want some seriously gothic armour for my Marines, but nothing was seeming to work.

Until I spied a box of Chaos knights.

Not my best ever paint job, but this is sort of how they are going to looking.

Commander

Special weapon and standard bearer

The whole tactical squad

This is how the Assault squad will look

The guys I play with on a "regular" basis aren't WYSIWYG Nazi's, so I can get away with the extra shields in the squad. It's basically bolt pistol and CCW's all round, with a couple of plasma pistols for gaming.

So do you think it's gonna work? Should I carry on with the rest of the army? Or just let it die with these two test squads?

I would try gluing the powerpacks of the tactical squad/chap/commander on overtop of the cloaks if only to show even more that they are in fact 40K Marines and not proxied fantasy models. Great idea but needs a bit more to pull it off fully imho.

Go over to Bolter and Chainsword, search their conversions area for "Doghouse Pattern" There's a dandy tutorial there for how to turn chaos knight legs into gothic power armor, including how to make the lower legs into somethign more powerarmorey

Good work though

Wow. I looked at that, it's pretty cool.

I'll grab some GS and seeif I can do it, but I kinda like the leather boots.

Thanks guys. I'll continue with the army.

These look awesome!! I love the idea of conversions. The only suggestion I have is to convert the foor soldiers to round bases, as I think those are the only useable bases allowed in 40K.

Otherwise, I applaud the effort and hope to see the whole army!!

Missed this..

For future reference, can you please reduce the size of the images to suit standard forum layout?

I had to correct some images earlier.

I will not correct these, there are too many!

Whats wrong with the colours? I was going for a crusader inspired look, white with red, but white is too damn hard to paint, so I went with bone and red.

What would you suggest? Bare metal?

Great work there, I've had some similiar Black Legion marines
on my shelf for months now. Might have to get some more work
done on those as well.

It does take a far amount of time, cutting and bandages but the
chaos warrior sprue is a true treasure.

I've even seen a picture of some amazing space wolves using these
bits, now if I could only find that pic again :?

Simple put great work, keep it coming!

I don't think there is anything 'wrong' with the colours at all. However, it would all depend on what kind of marine you are going for, Chaos or Imperial. This theme fits Imperial marines just fine but is a tad light for Chaos. And if you want to try white it would be easy as pie over what you have already. Just add a couple more layers of 50/50 Skull White/water overtop of the bone. Starting from an unpainted model and a base color of codex Grey will also allow you to hit a nice white as well.
