It didn’t seem right as Mastemas slaughtered yet another loyalist, crushing the guardsman’s skull with a warp-powered fist adding to the countless unrecognisable bodies littered around his feet. After three years of laying siege to the loyalist capital on this retched planet, having to resort to killing slaves just to satisfy his bloodlust but know as the city had been breached the true faith for khorne can become apparent.
Mastemas squad was the first through the breach losing six men instantly from the loyalists entrenched positions but once they closed the gap and chain-axes and armoured fists could come to bare the guardsmen fell dead in the streets of the markets place to the superiority of the chaos powers, not even the false emperor could protect them now. With his diminished squad Mastemas headed toward the cities barracks in the hopes of there being enough men to kill when they felt the ground rumble as the guards armoured column rolled up and opened fire on Mastemas’ location killing another three of his squad and pinning him down in a half destroyed house. Mastemas was ashamed that he would die while he was hiding and trapped like an animal when he heard an inhuman roar and the crunch of metal. Mastemas peered out of cover and witnessed the ultimate show of chaos power as a greater demon tore through the armoured column defences.
Leaving the demon to its pleasure Mastemas continued towards the barracks and with the three men remaining in his squad he cut a bloody path throughout the city. When Mastemas finally reached the barracks courtyard he wasn’t disappointed by what he saw. A horde of guardsmen in the central court yard surrounding ten stalwart marines and a sorcerer on a mound of dead guardsmen with the eight pointed star held high in defiance while bolter fire tore through the guards armour. From Mastemas’ view the sorcerer looked like he was concentrating too deeply to be of any use in the battle but the guard’s attempts to stop the mystic chanting showed that it was Mastemas duty to protect the warped enchanter. Mastemas and his men cleave a path to the unbreakable troops around the sorcerer and took up their positions.
As the sun set Mastemas looked upon the gore they had created over a thousand dead guardsmen fell to warp powered bullets and the determination of the marines before the guards retreated. It didn’t make sense to Mastemas. The manner of their retreat wasn’t some fearful scramble to get out of harm’s way but was slow and purposeful. The sorcerer hadn’t said anything useful them the entire battle much to the annoyance of Mastemas. His misgivings however where short lived as the ground rumbled as what was left of the guards armoured corps and infantry circled the central plaza taking up every available space while Valkyries circled high overhead. Mastemas looked at the surrounding enemy and felt for the first time in his life his bloodlust has gotten him into trouble but he would fulfil his duty and take as many of the enemy with him. As the guard advanced Mastemas and his marines opened fire felling guards by the hundreds, and yet they still advanced like a relentless tide, intent on destroying the heretics. The chaos armour was strong and resilient but under the large amount of fire put out by the guards marines fell, even Mastemas himself took a wound losing an arm to the inferior guard. The slight inconvenience of losing a limb was not something to stop a chaos lord from fulfilling his duty as he used his chain axe to tear through man after man reaping a bloody harvest for the dark gods. The sheer numbers of the guard were pressing forward threatening to overwhelm Mastemas and get to the sorcerer. Mastemas fought with vigour slaying guards left and right, giving true testament to the Blood God until he was hit from behind being causing him to be knocked down onto his back, helpless as the treads of an imperial tank was moving towards him only inches away ready to crush him into the mud, and then it stopped.
Time slowed the Guards moved as if wading through mud but all Mastemas saw was a gauntlet outstretched towards him. The sorcerer now having stopped chanting pulled Mastemas up from the mud, who looked around and all he could see was the guard now hesitant as the air around them rippled and distorted as demons tore through the fabric of reality slaughtering the guard and crushing their tanks underneath demon talons. Mastemas looked at the sorcerer who had a cackled at the look before the sorcerer creamed in pain. On the ground the sorcerer writhed in pain spikes erupting from his flesh which quickly gained body mass, before sprouting wings covered in ragged feathers. The newly appeared prince of the warp descended into battle to take on the slaughter as Mastemas looked on in disgust, of course after the sacrifice he made, the blood that he offered and the dedication to his duties was to the benefit of the very being that was in need of protecting.
At least there a plenty of guard that need to be slaughtered Mastemas thought hefting up his bloodied chain-axe and charging towards the nearest loyalist intent on the slaughter.

yeh sorry about the colour and the many spelling and grammer errors i wrote it at 3am

Yeah, seems like you know the feeling of wanting to finish that piece of literature you are working on and wanting to post it late at night, so that the next evening you're hoping that a lot of people have read and liked it, but then what really happens is that you havn't got a single comment whatsoever....

good times... good times
