Felt the urge to reread some Gaunt the other day and a few questions came to mind.
1. Any one ever read anything about what happened to Brin Milo? Last I knew he went off with the "Beati" to join Macaroth at the front of the crusade. But has Abnet wrote him in any where else? Is he ever mentioned in another book or short story?

(Disclaimer: The 2nd question is more of a "thought" you could say but meant for discussion purposes)
2. In Necropolis, Gaunt sleeps with Merity Chass after he took control of the Hive forces. What if she got pregnant? Is it possible that Abnet wrote this in as an intentional act to "hint" at some book in the future that he is gonna write? Like a legacy type thing. Gaunt, after all, went into Imperial service like his dad. Personally, I think it would be an interesting read to hear about his kid.

1) Abnett has said that Milo will one day reappear but he hasn't written him into any stories since he left with the Saint.

2) Pregnancy isn't the result every time people sleep together- there might have been a child born but it would take a fair few years yet before he was old enough to track down his father, if he even wanted to.

Well of course pregnancy isnt always the result. The question of "what if" applies here. As in, "What if she got pregnant" from that one chance encounter. And I dont really expect a newborn to want to try to track down his father (let alone be capable of it!) It's a discussion point Baron, to idle conversations of "what if's" and "I wonder's".

Well he wouldn't be a new born anymore he'd be around 5 or 6, possibly older, but since his mother is a noble on Verghast do you really think he'd feel enamoured of joining the Guard? It's possible with such a famous father but I imagine that if he had the urge for military service his family would purchase a cushy command post for him.

True, they probably would. But, Merity DID see in Gaunt that he was the noble soldier and she respected him for that. It's possible that if he demonstrated the same attributes of his father that no matter the posting he would push for a front line one. It's also a possibility that since he is the son of a Commissar that he could be accepted to the Schola Progenian(SP).

I don't think Abnett's gonna introduce Gaunt's kid at any point, if he even had one. Maybe he just wanted to get Ibram laid.

Because his dad was a commissar? Let alone a famous one? Maybe follow in his footsteps. Maybe he'll even become an officer in the IG. Who knows.
I'm not saying Abnet WILL write about his son (if in fact he had one). Was just trying to get a friendly debate going on the possibility. And I've failed lol

No you haven't but the Schola Progenium is for orphans of Imperial Officers- which Gaunt's son/daughter, if he had one, wouldn't be. His son/daughter could be brought a commission as an officer (the officer part being the rank Gaunt is really celebrated for) with no need to attend such a brutal academy- a place that has a high mortality rate, not something his noble family would risk, after all he wouldn't have much choice in the matter being a scion of a noble house.
