I'm sure that most everyone has seen the various signatures that read

Ultramarines W/L/D - 55/1/2

or some such. How much truth do you think these represent, and are they of any real value other than to let readers know which armies you play? I was thinking of the coming new year and whether or not such a tidbit would be worth my time. I suppose this could apply to WHFB as well.

I've never cared enough to keep track honestly... Besides, I care more about whether it was an interesting and fun game and whether I learned something (Keep Vyper Jetbikes away from Gauss Blasters, a cool new tactic, whatever) than I do about whether I was a few victory points short in the end.

All 55/1/2 tells me is that you need to play someone other than your 7 year old brother once in awhile. ;)

Battle reports, pics of your painted models, etc. are all far more valid indicators of your 'gamer cred'.

You play a game and someone has to win and someone loses, with the occasional draw. Chances are a person with a 50/50 win lose (with some absorbed into draws) is more fun to play with than someone with an inordinate amount of wins.

I don't take them that seriously, if you really do have a record like 100/1/2 then that probably proves that your a powergamer and a jackass to play against

however truthfully mine would be summit like
10/1000/2
(maybe slightly exaggerated, but you get the point)

I don't care enough about the win/loss statistics enough to keep track. Like Asmodai, I care more about whether the game was fun or not, and whether I learned anything from it. I've also been playing 40k for the better part of 18 years, so I've probably played around 1000 games.

I've won a few, and lost more than that. Drew less than I won. I've even had a game where I've had one below half strength unit left at the end of turn two. My opponent graciously let me 'concede' and it gave us time for a longer lunch and a couple of beers.
I didn't spike his sportsmanship score and he didn't spike mine. That was a fun game in that respect, and I have no problem playing against him in future.

I've also played against the WAAC knobs and even winning against them is no fun as they gripe and whine and moan about my army being broken and even spike your sports scores for beating them. These games are not fun.

For the most part, I'm in agreement with you guys. I've never tracked my wins, except for tourneys, but after seeing a few of these statistics floating about, I got to wondering just what mine might be and I became curious.

I do know that in 40K, after 7 years, I win much more than I lose, so I started hosting tourneys instead of playing in them. In Fantasy, after 12 years, I'm still drawing half/half and look forward to competitive games.

Actually, the only 'stats' I've ever posted up to this point in my signature blocks has been whether or not my current army is completely modeled and painted. Still, I am curious and may start tracking my numbers during the next year.

I have started doing it with my new Thousand Sons army list just because I am just excited that I can compete with them again. Once I get bored of it however, I will forget to update it at some point and then it will be removed. Same when the numbers get too high, etc.

Actually, I'd pit the new Plague Marines against the TSons in a straight up fight. Pity that I am justifiably disgusted by Papa Nurgle...
