yeah rip this to shreds he painted it with metallics and yeah have fun.

I def like the color scheme, it looks really neat, but it seems like it was slapped on in a hurry and not much time was spent on it. Maybe water down the paints (metallics too) and spend a little more time on it and I think it could be a good look.

All I can really say, and all I'm going to say, is that he needs to thin his paints.

Can someone link to a tutorial about a) basic painting, b) model preparation?

On the other hand, the base looks fine.

This thread seems a bit spiteful, but I agree painting something totally metallic is not a very good idea.

paint a model all metalic can work, but the paints need to be thined and not just, how can i say, Slaped on. when i done my grey knights they was all metalics and i just made sure the paints where thined and applied in thin even layers

Your Friend needs to sign up for Gw academy program......(i hate to say it to) and thin his paints down. As for painting metalic if you use a black primer then boltgun metal mixed with what ever as a base you can get some simple but nice results. (Wash's help to)
