GW is releasing 18 new paints. They are base colors. This is amazing. It will speed up and make paiting much easier.

Why?

Normal gw colors are much "brighter" than these. These are solid, earthy, foundation colors. They have much more pigment in them. It allows painting over, say, black primer to be much easier. No longer will you you black, uber dark, dark, light, highlight.

Now its primer, light, highlight.

Here is the DD thread--

Personally, i HAVE tried them. I tried Astronomican Grey to quickly paint up a nice white marine. I also used Malachite for a bloodied blade.

This stuff is awesome. Picy: http://www.warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=16948&d=1169038604

I have some on order, they'll be in April 6th. OMFG, happynezz!

lol you really do sound excited about them :)
Other companies have ranges that are much more natural/earthy tones. I think they seem odd on 40k mini's sometimes. Suppose its just being used to seeing bright marines/eldar/orks etc...

True, but you figure, even with GM's palette, you can mix and combine to make just about any color out there...

Although... having those colors already made, or close to it does make it easier...

That largely the point, usually people paint in layers to get the desired effect. Many layers. This will allow for a broad range of colors to be created with only one foundation color.

The foundation paints from what i have heard of my mate/eavy metal painter are wicked! really nice smooth and solid coverage even when wartered down for a thin layer. Also the colours are obviously not the standard mix and open a nice possibility of more "real world" colour schemes.

It will be £30 for all 18 btw.

Not too shabby. That means they will be only slightly more here in the Great White North then. I have to admit being fairly keen on trying these out as painting is my primary enjoyment of this hobby of ours and anything that lets me get a model done to the standard I like in a shorter time is a good thing :)

Guys i have now used the Foundation paints pretty extensively to paint new Harlequins and yes they are a bit good :D
Straight over black using Iyaden darksun[yellow] and Mechrite red[red lol]
then over that with badmoon yellow and bloodred for a bright smooth colour with only 1 underlayer. Hormgaunt purple then warlock purple, necron abyss then enchanted blue. Oh yes they are well worth getting.

I pre-ordered them with my winnings from the latest RTT tourney. For some reason ours won't be in until late April. But, the demo we saw they had models sprayed with the Chaos Black(yes the tacky primer) and one coat of even the lightest colors like yellow went over it in one coat. No more layers and extra time spent painting.

I cannot wait for the paint set either, supposed to come with a little rack to hold them in I am told.

21st april, you can try them in pretty much any GW. i use them most days i go into my local (tunbridge wells) and i was unconvinced, but seriously, they fucking own.

iyanden darksun and mechrite red are the two ive used most, but tallarn flesh, adeptus battlegrey and one of the browns, all excellent. Astronomicon Grey also is a one-step to white. a. mazing.
