Does this magical essence we call fluff come for the heavens? Is it a gift from the gods? Seriously though, I've always been a why more than a what guy, so all the novels elaborating, do they have to be approved? Are there guidelines that you follow and they just let you do whatever?

Most novels go through a vetting process where they're checked to ensure they stay true to the IP (for instance Dan Abnett had to meet with Rick Priestly- one of the creators of Warhammer- when he wanted to write Legion so he could get approval for some of his ideas).#
Of course occasionally you get someone like Goto who, seemingly, bypasses this whole checking phase.

The best person to ask on Heresy would be dead.blue.clown or Chris Wraight, they're both BL authors.
