Hello Heretics,

I'm sure there are dozens of this sort of threads out there floating in warpspace, but I thought that perhaps it would be more beneficial to start one anew. This thread is basically a return to roots for some and for others a first step into the void. I urge you to post your first attempts at miniature painting, pictures encouraged. Talk about what you have learned since those times or what you hope to learn from this point on. I will be posting mine here below.

This was my first foray into the into Mini-painting, a simple ork.

it looks ok...the cloth need some wahes to add depth...it could just be the photo...but it looks like you may have fillef in some of the detail with thick paint...try smaller thinner layers...
a good rule of thumb for starting..
base..wash. base..highlight highlight

Thanks, Mantis.

I was thinking that it lacked a lot of depth. I was having trouble with the lighting tho so that could be a little bit of it. I was experimenting with a mini yesterday and i simply wasn't certain what a good ratio of water to paint was so I made quite a mess with the whole thing, but what else are crash dummies for really. I think I got a little of a better handle with that, a foothold at least. I also just got in some washes today and I'll be playing with that soon as well. Thank you for the advice.
