I've only ever used DA as allies, and my White Scars have been kicking ass as my bike army. I'm just looking for something a little different but still competitive. Just an idea. I'd love to have some experience tell me why this is good/bad. I don't even have a DA player around here to steal ideas from.

200 Sammael
215 Command (Apoth, Dev Banner)

155 3x Bikes (2x Melta)
MM Attack Bike

155 3x Bikes (2x Melta)

165 3x Bikes (2x Plasma)
MM Attack Bike

165 3x Bikes (2x Plasma)
MM Attack Bike

155 3x Bikes (2x Plasma)
HB Attack Bike

135 3x Bikes (2x Flamer)
HB Attack Bike

145 TLLC Mortis
145 TLLC Mortis
115 ML Mortis

The Mortis of course are the Mark V Mortis Dreadnought from Forgeworld IA2. They pack either two lascannons or two missile launchers and gain skyfire/interceptor when they stay still, or fire as usual for a dread on the move.

I love the mortis pattern dreadnoughts!!! Have you thought about running them with the twinliked auto cannons? runs 125 pts, and gives you an increase in volume of decent strength shots.

I have. Matter of fact, that used to be my 100% go to with them. But now-a-days, flyers with an armor value don't scare me too much. Some are definitely better than others, but my main concern is xenos armies around here and with them come the FMC. I need something that can plaster a 3+ armor save to force jink saves. That flying hive tyrant would be 200+ points of snap shots from a 115 or 145 point dreadnought for the rest of the game. Please bring more! I have shots to go around! But if I brought the autocannon, those guys wouldn't bat an eye about taking the armor saves.

Why not change the plasma bikers for Black Knights that way you get 3 twin linked plasma guns with Skilled Riders on top. Also do you really need that much melta? 3 Multi Meltas with those lascannos should be plenty. You would want to get use of your banner of devastation anyways.
Also I do agree with you I used to only field rifle dreads but they barely scratch anything but 2 twinlinked lascannons can put fear of god on your enemy =)

Hmmm. I like the idea. Let me crunch some numbers and get back on the black knights. It's not really supposed to be an obsec spam list, but can function like one if need be. And no, I really don't need that much melta. It's just the models I have. I do have more HB Attack Bikes though.

So I modified your list and this is what i would probably take

+++ Da (1712pts) +++

++ Dark Angels: Codex (2013) (Combined Arms Detachment) (1712pts) ++

+ No Force Org Slot (255pts) +

Ravenwing Command Squad (255pts) [4x Black Knight, Ravenwing Apothecary]
····Banners [Devastation]

+ HQ (200pts) +

Sammael (200pts) [Corvex (Jetbike)]

+ Elites (435pts) +

Mark V Mortis Pattern Dreadnought * (145pts) [2x Twin-linked Lascannon]

Mark V Mortis Pattern Dreadnought * (145pts) [2x Twin-linked Lascannon]

Mark V Mortis Pattern Dreadnought * (145pts) [2x Twin-linked Lascannon]

+ Troops (486pts) +

Ravenwing Attack Squadron (Troops) (162pts) [3x Ravenwing Biker]
····Ravenwing Attack Bike [Multi-Melta]
····Ravenwing Sergeant [Bolt Pistol, Boltgun]

Ravenwing Attack Squadron (Troops) (162pts) [3x Ravenwing Biker]
····Ravenwing Attack Bike [Multi-Melta]
····Ravenwing Sergeant [Bolt Pistol, Boltgun]

Ravenwing Attack Squadron (Troops) (162pts) [3x Ravenwing Biker]
····Ravenwing Attack Bike [Multi-Melta]
····Ravenwing Sergeant [Bolt Pistol, Boltgun]

+ Fast Attack (336pts) +

Ravenwing Black Knights (168pts) [3x Black Knight]
····Huntmaster [Corvus Hammer]

Ravenwing Black Knights (168pts) [3x Black Knight]
····Huntmaster [Corvus Hammer]

Created with BattleScribe

So you got 13 Twinlinked plasma guns, 6 Twinlinked Lascanons, 3 Multi Meltas, 12 Twin Linked Salvo 4 Bolters. Also few spare points to give Ravenwing troops some special weapons of your choice.

I like. I just need to get another TLLC dreadnought arm. I'm a cheap skate so I'm using regular dreadnought arms flipped upside down at the moment and I only have 5 lascannons. Also, I didn't think command squads could ever be larger than 3 models. I'm going to need some more black knights too. I think I've got a total of six. I do really like the idea of black knights over plasma ravenwing though. I hate it when I kill myself with plasma and the twin-linked can really help that out. Not to mention more hits is more kills. Thanks for taking the time to help out with this one!

The way it's worded in the Codex you can't, but the picture underneath clearly shows a 5 man Command Squad. However:

Page 96 – Ravenwing Command Squad, Options
Add:
‘• The Ravenwing Command Squad may
purchase up to two additional Ravenwing
Black Knights...............................................40 pts/model’
Change the first bullet point to:
‘• One Ravenwing Black Knight may take a banner from
the following list:
- Ravenwing Company Banner*............................ 15 pts
- Revered Standard ................................................ 25 pts
- Alternatively, they may take a banner from the
Sacred Standards section of the wargear list.’
Handy thing, those FAQs.

Why don't you just proxy it or counts as? Or do you have to have all the models, coz that's an expensive and time consuming endeavour. When are you planing to field the army?
@ntaw thanks for linking that FAQ dude =)

No worries my friend. GW should definitely hire me to edit their books though...

At this point I would almost do it for free.

As for LC arms, if you have the arm and you have two lascannons spare why not just make one? I made my own Vendetta weapons this way, and may just do a Mortis arm as well since I'm in the same boat for my second one.

FAQs.... bah. They should have got it right the first time! Thanks though. That is a big help. I'd love to have some more T5, FNP guys to suck up wounds from my banner.

I could make one... I normally don't glue my dreads and I hate magnets. But I've got an extra TLLC arm that I snapped off a glued model once. And it's a SW one... feels so wrong.

What's wrong with magnets? I have all my 25 Deathwing terminators magnetized, so I can freely and easily swap out weapon options especially that deathwing can be so full different combos. Should be useful for Dreadnoughts aswell.

I've got a few magnetized models that I've bought used. Just not a huge fan. I do like my magged up furioso so I can make a fragioso. The only models Ive magnetized myself was my dreadknight and some speeder bases. I just prefer the staying power of unglued dread arms with their pegs.

Sounds like you need to use a better magnet brother. That being said, we all like what we like and that's just fine. I've found on my Dreadnoughts the arms have all worked marvelously on the pegs, with the exception of the AoBR Dread body vs. normal Dread arms. That's some majorly loose butt-hole. I magnetized the front plate of (one of) my Furiosos so I could play it as a Libbynaught and the hand mounted weapons...wish I had have been more into magnets when I put the first together, 'cuz now I could run both as HQ choices (which would be a blast in a friendly game).

Either way, magnets rock. Get the right tools for the job (hand held pin vice with bits the size of your magnets goes a long way) and they're as easy as undercoating your models.

The face plate thing is an awesome idea! I have one libbienought that's pure built already and the bits to make another. I just need an unbuilt dread since the 15 I have are all glued together bodywise.
