Hey

With the new WH Fantasy rules out I've decided to come see what all the fuss is about and give Fantasy a try.

Here is my current brainstorm of a 1k list. I am yet to buy many models as I want to know whether the army is feasable or not before I buy, so feel free to be brutal with changes.

Battle Mage: Level 2, Rod of Power 130

Captain: Barded Horse, Full Plate Armour, Lance, Shield 78

Knights x10: Standard, Musician, Preceptor 270

Knights x5: 123

Swordsmen x20: Musician, Standard 135

Crossbowmen x19: 152

Great Swords x10: Standard, Musician 118

998

I'll stick the Captain with the 10x Knights and the mage with the crossbows.

I'm not quite sussed on tactics yet (as I've only had 1 game and it was a learner game) but I think I'll advance the 2 swords regiments forward to hold up the enemy while the crossbows are positioned in centre of my deployment zone and whittle down nasty foes and ranged units and the knights stay close by to support where they're needed.

So any feedback would be hugely appreciated. Am I at least on the right track for making a decent army and what changes would people recommend?

Im not really an empire player so cant give much in the way of feedback, though I would suggest using at least 1 cannon: empire artillery is one of their best features and when a cannon can 1 shot all other artillery pieces and slaughter enemy monsters or solo characters with ease you can see why... without it you might find yourself struggling to hurt any monsters or 1+AS enemy units.

Not an empire player, but from observations:

You seem to have a lot of points sunk into the knights. Having a few as flankers is a great idea, but maybe that large calvary block could get you more bang for your buck elsewhere?
perhaps the cannon & more greatswords?

Greatswords not so much, sure they are stubborn, but they always strike last, and are only T3. plate armour doesnt mean so much when your getting wailed on by everybody and their grandad before you even swing your sword. :headbutt:

Level 2 Battle Mage: Shadow lore, Rod of Power, Ring of Volans 130

Captain: Barded Horse, Full Plate Armour, Lance, Shield 78

Knights x10: Standard, Musician, Preceptor 270

Knights x5: 115

Swordsmen x20: Musician, Standard 135

Crossbows x19: 152

Great Cannon 100

Total 1000

Any better? I'm not particularly keen on ditching any of my knights as they are kind of my centre piece/ spearhead, though if they really are a point waste I suppose I could ditch the small unit.

The knights are an alright unit, but in 8th edition there wont be to many glorious calvary charges ripping through enemy units. Consider maybe dropping the unit of 5 to make the 10 inncer circle knights, the extra str can make all the differance, I would make that last change if you really want the knights as a centrepiece, otherwise I would personally make them into 3 units of 5 and just use them to flank the enemy, But hey, its your army. But if after a couple games they arent doing it for you I would maybe put some more line infantry in spearman or halberds or swordsmen, your choice really. Because even for 1k your sort of lacking in the ranked unit department.
