The Dragon lords haven't been heard from in over a century any Ideas why?

I actually began writing a short story about it, I just haven't got any idea about what enemy killed them. At first I thought that maybe they got mutated when a warp rift opened near there gene facility and then was over run by chaos marines and. Demon spawn. Any ideas?

That's a strong possibility, however one that GW has not discussed yet. I don't even think it's on their mind anytime soon. It would be neat to see your interpretation of events though.
