Great review, more like this in future please.
I personally bought that omnibus from 2 reasons. first I wanted something other than usual BL war stories and secondly because I liked Matthew Farrer's short from Tales of Heresy. I agree completly with you that MF has flawless grasp of the source material but that is not enough for a good book. I am not sure if it is his writing style [at least in that book] or just weak story or maybe something else but it is one of these BL books [like Battle for the Abbyss, Conquest of Armageddon, Ciaphas Cain omnibus, Lord of the Night etc. to name a few] that I struggled to finish and will not reread again.
