What is the general consensus for a counter unit/weapon for wraith knights and wraith lords. With their toughness 8 + saves they've been a pretty tough obstacle for my last few games.

I realize sniper rifles would be 50% effective at wounding but unless I've missed something I don't see where I could get any for a chaos army. I did try to mele with plague marines, but they attack after so they typically get stomped before they can try to plague knife them. Last game I had a full squad of havocs with autocannons shoot for 3 turns at a wraith knight and not kill it. Just wondering what other people have found to work?

Missiles. Lots of Missiles.

Krak Missiles are S8 AP3, which have a 50% to wound if if they do ignore their armor save. In Chaos Marines, Deamon Princes also do very well against Wraiths, as can anything with high init, and a force Weapon.

Krak Missiles, Plasma Guns, Poisoned weapons, Snipers, Str7 torrent (ranged or melee), Meltaguns, Hades Autocannons, Vector Strikes, Lascannons, Psychic Shriek can work, Terrify, Cultists/Zombies. That's all I can think of at the moment, but that should give you something to mull over.

Lascannons are marginally better than Missile Launchers for MC-killing, I find--the main MCs I'm shooting at these days being Riptides and Wraithknights. Lascannons have better strength than Plasma for killing Wraithknights, but better AP for killing Ripdtides, and are only a bit more expensive than missile launchers. Krak missiles are nice and all, but Lascannons will melt basically anything (and wound Wraithknights more often than missiles in the grand scheme of things).

An allied Plaguebearer squad can probably put some serious wounds on with its poisoned attacks, provided it could ever reach the Wraithknight--being pretty damn slow, that strikes me as slightly unlikely. Plague Drones then, perhaps? But that's digging into allied Daemons. Mass Daemonette/Seeker rends also work.

If you've put a few wounds on a Wraithknight, a Black Mace Daemon Prince should be able to charge in and finish it off--but if it doesn't kill the 'Knight, the 'Knight will strike back and Instant Death it at S10... and if it does kill it, your Prince will be left out in the cold, vulnerable to enemy shooting. ...get the enemy to charge YOU with the Wraithknight, perhaps? Somehow?

Do you actually need to kill it to win the game? Ask that before deciding what to aim at it, if anything. More often it's the Jetbikes that'll be winning the game for your opponent, so dealing with them could potentially be an easier task.

yes that's very true Sethis, I have successfully ignored it during a couple games (although I did take casualties of course) but last game I decided to try to take it out since it was front and center and the only other squad visible was a rediculous seer council with eldrad and wraithguard but was quite unsuccessful.

Also what are cultists possibly going to do against it?

ummm.... Is there not still the rule that states if you cannot damage it the mc gives you bird & walks off laughing?
