When a Dragon Mage casts a spell he gains a free power dice,Would this happen if he casts a bound spell ?

No, it's basically not him casting it. It doesn't even use his wizard level for a casting bonus.

Just give him the silver wand (almost auto-choice) and get 3 free PD a turn... shiny.

^ It took me a second to process this. . .that's nasty! Of course, you'd have to target the same unit each time, which might be hard with only 3 spells.

You aren't forced to target the same target each time... but if you do you get an extra D3 to on the 2nd and 3rd spells. Means you would be getting 2D6+D3 while only using 1PD from the pool.
The dragon mage is awesome... shame he's so schizophrenic: having a non-combat mage on a dragon is a little annoying, especially since a few bow shots will kill the mage. Dragon mages probably arent good for really competetive lists... but if all you want is a bit of fun look no further.

As long as you stay away from Champions and the like, if you get Rhuin, he becomes semi decent - the Dragon get's +1 to wound and magical attacks, so Ethereal is no longer a bugger.

Just a shame it can't take Lore of Beasts (Horros, for 4 S6 Attacks) =(.

Ah, but a Dragon Mage can always swap for Rhuin . And with the plethora of PD
available to HE, giving him a bound item is a really viable option.
