A friend of mine has modeled all this space marines ( Cobra Marines ) so that the inside of the sholderpad look like snakeskin, its looks quite cool. have any of you center your armys around one theme?

I kinda have one. It's an Unforgiven force which only consits of elite soldiers with a fixation for hand-to-hand combat.

As for conversions, I mostly just use the existing Space Marine and Dark Angels parts, but I add a few details like torches, Empire and Chaos warrior shields and some feather details. I also build all my characters from scratch with plastic bitz and will use some authentic bitz to upgrade and personalize my veichles.

Combined with a paint scheeme I haven't seen much like before, it generaly makes up a slightly unique army, and that's all the gimmick it needs - it's mine.

I guess you can call this a gimmick, but I paint and model my IG to look realistic. I don't use bright and vibrant colors, instead I use a lot of earth tones. I also tend to use weapons that look a little more man portable for my Infantry Squads, I use Heavy Stubbers on a bipod instead of Heavy Bolters and Missile Launchers. All of the Lascannons in my army are the old 3rd edition metal ones that look like little artillery pieces

I do for my marines. I made my own chapter the Grudge Bearers, aesthetically, they are inspired by chaplains. They all wear black armour with a whitish helmet and backpack top for contrast. Every one of them as a lot of bits added to it: purity seals, tabards, winged skulls, scrolls, books, scroll canisters. My normal troopers carry more bling than most people Commanders.

It all as a meaning in the fluff I wrote so carry to much stuff, it represents books of grudges and oaths of vengeance. The most striking element however is that they ALL wear the chaos "skull" helmet or the bionic eye variant:

For loyalists, they look very grim compared to the Ultras, Fists or Blood Angels.

Come to think of it.... no. I kept my Tau army in the same colour scheme but there was no central thing they all had to have unless you count the squad markings on the Firewarriors. My Tsons are in the process of being repainted so not there. Although, now that I think of it, my regular marines from the prior codex list and the vehicles they used were all in a camo style theme.

All of my armies has the same gimmick.... They all have the same broke fat white guy standing behind them...

Generally, each of my armies has just ONE glaring weakness. Capitalizing on this weakness nearly guarantees a victory for my opponent. My goal, is to cover for that weakness any way I can.

My Word Bearers are all covered in torches and skulls, and they use a black-on-red scheme (Inspired by Wraithlord's red/black camo)

My Mountain Angels are in limbo between renegades and full chaos marines, as they were abandoned during an Apocalypse Battle (Me and a friend vs. 5000 pts of Black Legion, he needed to go to class.) and have decided to forsake the corrupt Imperium. The squads are built from Tactical and Chaos squads, more Chaos parts for the squads that have fallen further. I also use Kytharin Stormserpent squads, based off thinned down Lizardmen with green stuff armor (They count as Tactical Marines)

I haven't done it yet, but I've been thinking of using some of the Dark Angel and Black Templar pieces for my Flesh Tearers. For those unfamiliar with the history of the Flesh Tearers, they're basically known for being unstable, ruthless and bloodthirsty to the point where they're teetering on the edge of being declared heretics.

I've been wanting to theme my army toward some sort of Penitent Crusade for some time and I figure that the Dark Angel's robes (especially the ones with hoods that mask some of the face) would be perfect to show my army's shame. At the same time, since it's a Penitent Crusade I figure that the Black Templar weapons (what with their chains and all) would be an excellent way of showing off their devotion and determination to complete their Crusade and atone for their sins.
