I managed to get a weapon penetration result on a vindicater, my opponent though swore up and down that smoke launchers counted as weapons so the die roll to destroy the main gun was a 1-2, rather then 1-3.

This makes, NO sense at all to me, because, frankly you can't kill some one with a smoke launcher nor does it have a profile, and weapon destroyed result says, one WEAPON can't be used again, but the logic seemed to be that it was a piece of wargear, and it could be used in the shooting phase.

You are right I think your opponent needs to read the rules because as you said the smoke launcher is not a weapon because it has no profile. Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure if it doesn't have a profile then it isn't a weapon.

It's a vehicel equip. By the same assumption you could destroy extra armour or dozer blade...hit him with a pewter landraider

sounds like he was trying to make sure his main gun didnt take the hit so he spammed some bull to save it. i agree hit him with a tank, if one of those is not handy use a hammer, if you dont have one of those i will mail you one i have plenty to spare

Most people who want the main gun not to blow up, suck it up and pay the 5pts for a combi-bolter or 10 for a combi-plasma/flamer/melta to give it a bit of protection.
At least it isn't like in the old old days where the owning player got to pick which weapon went boom (I think I will pick that weapon that sucks on the other side of the tank what is useless rather than the large cannon of superdeath!).
