Am I the only one finding it weird that the new Imperial Guard codex plays down the Tanith First and Only? I mean they get one bloody section, and Gaunt is not even a special model.

With all the lore and popular series written on them you'd they'd get more right? share you thoughts gentlemen

I think they make poor poster boys for the imperial guard because they have the wrong message.

Tanith first and only

The Imperial Guard are all about being the hammer, the strategic blunt trauma weapon with which the imperium bludgeon the filthy xenos and the radical separatist into oblivion, not about being a highly specialised handful of chosen men... those honours go to the Marines!

Additionally, the Tanith First and Only are recruited, deployed and, most probably, exterminated or resettled all throughout a single crusade in a single sector. The Imperial guard are bigger than that, and apart from all the cadian heroes who ALWAYS save the day against abbadon, a crusade into some other part of space against a lesser chaos force is, overall, less important/impressive. How about Caiphus Cain? Why don't his escapades earn him a model?

Damnit, why not?

You can take Camo-Cloaked and BS4 Guardsmen as your Troops in the current Guard Codex, as well as Camo-Cloaks on any infantry unit you care about. They didn't get rid of any fluff, and incorporated more into the rules. I'd say that's more attention.

I'm sure a Cadian fan could ask where their 14 fantastic novels are, and a Tallarn player could ask why their only real BL appearances have been 'the assholes in Ciaphas Cain' and 'that series that's like Space Marine Battles but not'.

I wish Abnett had bought back Milo, even if it was only briefly.
I'm actually glad that Brinny boy hasn't been brought back yet, it's too soon, don't get me wrong I think his character is great, Abnett will probably bring him back in one or two of the final books, probably as an Intergator or a newly made =I=. I can imagine Abnett will have changed his character a lot, made him harder and darker. Maybe he personally requests the Tanith for some one way mission that he's been given and only wants the best with him? Him and Gaunt fall back to back or something. He'll be back don't worry.

Pretty much sums it up really. The IG dex has always been about the faceless billions of cannon fodder with the exceptions of the special characters which they kinda have to have. The Tanith are an understrength (even now) regiment of individuals really.

That or there is simply too much awesome to put into rules.

True Jacobite, and yet I feel that sums up other Codex's as well. Daemons, Chaos, Tyranids, e.t.c. I could say the same for the Nids, they needs some more distinct special HQ or leaders. I just feel Gaunt, like Yarrick, has earned his place. Yet he is not s special model yet?

That's more what I mean. I ran Gaunt using Yarricks rules with modified fluff for a few games.

BTW can I +1 you Jacobite for the awesome username? :)

Give them time my friend, his series is not as popular as Gaunts Ghosts. Mainly because Abnetts been around longer(and is a better writer, though that's my opinion and not a fact).

This. If ever there was a BL character worthy of his own entry in the IG codex it's Cain. Hero of the Imperium, confidante of an Inquisitor, respected by the Adeptus Astartes, slayer of countless warlords from numerous xenos and traitor threats to the Imperium of Man. And Jurgen. Quite possibly the only human, unaugmented or augmented, totally immune to fear.

His special rules alone would be great. Between his supposed cowardice and Jurgen's null powers (and melta gun) they could be very interesting.

I would kill to see a Abnett do something where the Ghosts come across either the Raven Guard of the Raptors. Have it be like, you guys are good, but we are just down right BAD ASS!!!

I know he already has his own special rule, but I reckon Sly might have something to say about that

I think that they're too small and don't have enough tanks/flyers to fit in to GWs current direction :(

I have been tempted to make a detachment of Ghosts (counts as Vets) to jump out of my transports but I can't justify it to myself fluff wise

An alternative would be to get the armoured regiment they fight with in the hive to fight with them, say Gaunt sent some of the Ghosts off to help them out (vagueness for spoiler reasons)
