Im in the slow process of building my nurgle army.Iv noticed with the new chaos rules that having a squad of say ten renegade(The leperous Legion as there known)is more expensive than a squad of deathguard.My renegades have the banner of nurgle and all the regulare good stuff.My question is what does everyone think is better,renegades with a banner of nurgle or Deathguard.I find that there are positives to both groups

icon marines are good, but if you want something thats a pain in the ass to kill, just go deathguard
"you blew my leg off but i don't feel it"
and give the champ a fist, hes already at init 3

If you're going to walk the path of a specific god, just bring their servant Legion's troops. The only advantage you get from marines with the Icon of Nurgle is a point of initiative and the option to have a heavy weapon, which you don't need particularly in the first place.

I've been fighting a Deathguard army and OMG those boys just don't die!
Two preds with T/L Lascannons and HB sponsons, a Dev squad with 4 HBs were laying into those boys!
Over the course of the game I must have pumped 60+ shots from heavy bolters (Preds arrived late due to escalation) but the death guard just laughed at it all!

It was 1000pts, he had a Daemon Prince then 4 units of 7deathguard. A champ in each with a special weapon and a mixture of plasma, meltas & flamers in the squads.

Forget the Icon! The T5, Feel no pain is just plain wrong! Oh blight grenades mean I think twice about assaulting him!

I would personally just give troops an Icon of Nurgle, make the army my own, not a pre built games workshop one. Im currently building a Slaanesh army, not one noise marine in it. honestly i love the death gaurd, its been my experiance that the plague marines do far and above what normal chaos marines do with an icon. but also bear in mind, the plague marines a fearless aswell . marines with an icon aren't... theres nothing worse then watching an army of suposedly the most feared being running like little girls for cover...

thanks for the replys,deathguard are my faviourit unit,to paint and hopefully play,i love converting my chaos marines int boil and sore covered Leperus Legion to.At the moment im going to have at least one unit of D.G,acting as mentors for my L.L units.A brief outline of my army looks something like this.

Chaos lord in terminator a with five terminators.
three obliterators
a unit of seven Deathguard
a unit of ten Leperus Legion with icon of nurgle
a unit of ten chosen,close combat weapons in a
Rhino.
Im thinking of having another rhino,mainly used as a blocking and diversion vehicle,also gives me the option to put troops in it.
A deliler
A preditor(not sure which one)
A Drednaught(converting a space wolf venerable at the moment.
Im going to paint up another unit of Leperud legion,my paint scheme is similar to my Deathguard so they are intechangeable.
Mabey a sorceror for extra leadership and put him with my chosen.
