As poor old Wraithlord has a mini in 'stasis' waiting for a chapter symbol to paint in his test mini WIP for the Dark Talons, I thought it was time to start seeing what ideas you all have for the chapter symbol.

Check out the developing background for the Chapter in the various threads in the Vision of Heresy Forum for ideas and the general feel of the chapter.

Remember that we will need a few different versions of varying complexity, ranging from a Chapter
Banner (very intricate), vehicle iconography to simple symbols and shoulder badges that can reproduced over and over again. :wink:

Don't worry if your original artwork is not a masterpiece, its the idea we are after for now.

Submit your ideas in this thread and after a undetermined while we will start to pick out a short list.

Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with.

Lol, the largest one was more or less the same I was planning on trying out. Wasn't to sure about it as I figured it would look a bit to much like the Iron Hands. But you did a great job at it!

I imagine if the claws are drawn out enough it will look different enough.
Alternate ideas would be to do a three or four finger claw.

Ok, I've come up with some rough sketches for the more detailed symbols. Both will need a big clean up and rework, but its a start. Actually quite pleased with the second one;

Will be a few days before I have the updated versions though :?

Sorry for the delay guys, had some other stuff for another site to do and my GW order with new chaos stuff and dark eldar ships came in. Very cool, but distracting stuff. So it will be tomorrow or sunday before I finish my second attempt :wink:

A very Abadonnesque suggestion there, very cool idea as well. If I have the time for it I'll update my original symbols and try some new stuff this weekend. Will probably become half through the week as I need to set up a series of computer run experiments and questionnaire for a testweek in two weeks....which is turning out to be quite a bit of work. It's lonely in the trecnhes of psychological research :wink:

Well had a bit of time in between other crap today....so doodled this one up. A cleaner, meaner version of my earlier sketch. This one would be for the most advanced, most detailed version of the symbol (basic trooper, characters and other special stuff, largest version like on banners and large vehicles)

I know, not the cleanest thing ever. But its better than nothing :wink: I'll try to get some different versions done later this week, hopefuly including some totally different symbols.

I personally think the finger claws in the left need to be bigger, possibly using the same style as on the 'thumb'.

I'm a bit stuck on how to translate a symbol of this size and (relative) complexity to a simplifided, yet similiar version on a shoulderpad, kneepad or armourshields.

I'll see what I can come up though, no rest for the wicked! In addition I'm planning to add another squad to my Iron Warrior army that is being reworked. I could use that squad to try out a full squad of converted and painted dark talons....once we truly settle on the fluff and colourscheme that is. And since my army is an apolcalypse project they'll fit in perfectly as there will also be traitor guard, renegade armour units and even a fallen ordos malleus inquisitor :wink:

I agree that the thumb is perfect. What about having the claw grabbing the planet from below?

Actually Heph, take a look at the cover of the Eye of Terror book. Abbadon is gripping a planet in his fist and that pic is EXACTLY the idea I was talking about, the inspiration for it really. Something like that would be sweet as hell and would mainly be used for banners and large areas on tanks. A smaller, shoulder and knee sized version could just be black and white similar to the Imperial Fists logo or the Red Corsairs as they don't need the detail of a banner.

hey heph if you want me to i can possibly build on your ideas or any ideas you'd like to share, pretty good with pencil shading and such(need to get my warhammer pics back up that ive drawn) and have a bit of free time, might let you get distracted by your new models a lil more heh
