[Dark Talon]Legion Background and Fluff

A big idea in my head is that the legion is from the Cursed Founding.
Maybe the seed created facial abominations, making them lose lips and eye lids. Like a deathshead legion or the like.
I see that, and big veins visible across their pallid skin.
Maybe they were contaminated with nurgle so slight that the seed began to rot yet they were generally not bound to him nor caring of him. Maybe not even aware of his doing, only the hell they endure everyday.
Only enough that they look like dead, lipless vampires, but live and breathe. A cross between blood angels rules and deathguard rules for starters.
Since their major visible curse is their mangled faces, most wear plain black masks/helmets and the ranks wear ornate masks, ala Dante or Kingdom of Heaven.
They hate humanity for creating them and trying to destroy their failure, leading to the escape of key men and geneseed and the hiddne creation of the rest of the chapter on a desolate carrion world. Fugue or something of the like.

Another idea, that the the imperium(or even chaos) tried to create a chapter to combat the powerfully-blossoming psychic potential of humanity. They used a pariah as the genetic base for the seed, then modified that with resilient marine DNA(or chaos marine). The results was that the original and more powerful progenitors were pariahs, and the later were much less able to feel the warp or be affected by it.
SO, made to hate the imperium but are immune to chaos.
Or, made to fight chaos with their immunities yet rebelled due to their own soulless hated existence brought upon them by the imperium. And this same ability prevents them from being shackled by them.

Just to try and get some movement on the whole project I'm chucking my name into the pit inregards to writing (in part anyway) the fluff for the legion.
Fluff: something along the lines of fell during the Babab uprising. Legion had already been in trouble for not protecting a saint (she got killed), sent on a crusade to absolve themselves of guilt in the Emporers eyes, became increasingly angry with the lack of forgivness by the rest of the Imperuim (never saw a divine sign saying they were forgiven). Then came across the Astral Claws and their little uprising. Saw the Imperuim not being fair to them etc, finally lost the plot and threw their lot in with the rebels and away they went.
Combat Doctrine: Use surgical strikes by Raptor teams to take out key objectives before dropping a main force to engage the enemy forces and terrorise the population. Use all deamons/cultists shamelessly. Have a particluer hatred (and take delight in killing) for Preists, Inquistitors, Chaplins etc as they see them as ambassadors of the Emporer that never forgave them. They hate Saints even more due to it was the fault of one of them that they fell from favour. They are kinda like a cross of Word Bearers and Night Lords. They favour the use of Close Combat and short range fire fights as it allows them to see the enemy and personally punish them for thier (perceived) betrayal of the Chapter.
Anyway thats just what I came up with - with the permission of the boss-people (thats you mods) - I'll get to work on expanding it.
Just as a little side note a little part of me wants to make them followers of Malal and have them hating Chaos just as much as the Imperium but since Malal has kinda gone out of favour with the rest of the 40k universe it probably wouldn't be a good idea. But the thought is that after they turned to Chaos the rest of the legions rejected them as being pathetic, weak etc so they started to attack anybody they could find which didn't really make the other legions like them any better. Malal then started wispering to them. They then turned to him as he was the only one left who would take them in. On the up-side it allows them to fight absolotaly anybody they want. Malal is kinda 'older' and the legion may not be accpeted by people because of this, plus deamons could be kinda weird to use. Malal is cool though and it will certainly make us stand out from everybody else.

I have to admit, I like Jac's ideas quite a lot here, while also diggin the Pariah storyline from Khaine. Maybe work the two together some how, perhaps instead of falling from grace by allowing a saint to die, have them the objects of scorn and mistrust simply because of their origins, even though it was the Imperium whole made them the way they did, perhaps at the direction of a saint....? Being proud as all SM's are, they eventually grew bitter towards their Imperial masters and rebelled, helping Huron and company during the Badab Uprising and eventually fled to the Maelstrom alongside the marines of Hurons companies. Are also known to make alliances with small warbands from the Cult legions from time to time.
We should also start planning this legion similar to the rumours of the new codex that will be out in Sept, just to get a jump on it and not have to about face in mid project.
Astral Claws/Red Corsairs and the Dark Talons would be natural allies as well so it wouldn't be amiss to mix squads paintwise perhaps? Thinking too, and I will put this in the painting section of this project, that perhaps any model without a helmet should be painted with eyes that are completely solid colour, dark preferrably without being straight black. Something to show off the geneflaw that would have made them the object of scorn they became.
I would also suggest that they frequently make pacts with one Runious Power or another prior to entering battle, calling upon the favour of a god in return for the souls they slay. They do not favour one god over the other however, preferring to worship the 4 gods as a single entity.

Double post I know but I just had a thought. What if when we finally get this going, we start showing up at GT's and Hall of Heroes event with it, all of us with the same colour scheme, same background, etc. Wouldn't it be cool to see that mentioned on a GW website/in WD?

Sorry again, a double post but I've just checked and one of the problems with the Pariah thing is that in groups that have the nasty habit of blocking out the Astormican. Now while this an't a problem being that they are Tratiors, while they were Loyalist it would have been a very large trouble. Also given that there are factions high up in Terra that want to destory every Pariah in the human race any legion made up of them would be under =I= guidence so hard that any trace or hint of heresy would have the chapter destroyed instantly.
I'm not trying to rubish Khaines idea but how is a legion made up of Psyhic nulls with no souls going to exist in the warp seeing as they have no presence in the warp?

fluff
ok im gonna share the bit of fluff i been workin on for my army, maybe you guys will like it and want to use it. (though my army is already mostly painted and it would really suck if yall wanted a diff color sceem lol, ill worry about that later )
as lorgar of the word bearers was firs discovering the gods of the warp before the whole chapter had fallen to the taint of the chaos gods. there where many loyal warriors who where staunch belevers in spreading the imperial truth threw the great crusade. as lorgar began his worship the gods demanded sacrafice! crewmen and gurdsman at first , they where easy cover their dissaperences, but they became more and more till the gods started calling for the blood of brother astrates. lorgar in his ambition succame to their demands. one brother here another there. but shortly quiet questions where beginning to arise. but at the same time more and more of his brothers where following him down his dark path. so lorgar and his tainted brethren (whos numbers where growing rapidly) set out to gather the names of all the men they belived would never turn from there loyalty to the emperor, and discard the lies of the imperial truth. a whole 3rd of the chapter.
after a hard fought invasion of a hostile non compliant world lorgar and his traitorus breathren put their plan into motion , for the mass sacrafice that the gods where demanding. before the loyalists where able to regroup fully from the tuff battle (that they where all set on the front lines) lorgar summand them all to his audience and briefed them on an emegency mission they must embark on immediately. lorgar had falsified a distress call from another expedition fleet that needed dire reinfocments immediately.
the traitors and rigged all the ships that the loyalists would travel in so that all the nav systems would self destruct shortly after entering the warp. leaving them pray to the wims of chaos.
the plan went off with out a hitch the loyalist boarded their vessels and disembarked on their mission. and all communication was lost once they entered the warp. logar was pleased and free to delve deeper into the depthes of chaos!
ok now we fast forward to a few thousand years after the horus heresy when a small fleet emerges from the warp battered and beaten after ages lost in the warp. they have fought to survive for centuries hoping to make it back to warn the imperium of there bedrail at the hands of the word bearers.the only driving force that kept them alive was their unwavering devotion to the imperial truth. in the centuries lost afloat in the warp they had come across many worlds that worshipped false gods that they came to belive du to direct contact where massive xeno intelligences beyond anyone comprehention except the emperor. so they swore to bring the news of their finding to the emperor.the chaos gods cared little for the lac of devotion these bings lorgar had sent them, only that the worlds they found erupted in death and destruction.
the newly freed marines made for the first imperial planet they could find to resupply and get word to their brethren and the emperor of what had befallen them. to their horror appon makin contact with the so called imperial world they learnt that some heretical cult was ruling this world with its worship of an emperor god! so the (truth bearers( what i have been calling them so far, the name adopted during their centuries of trying to find their way out of the warp to let the imperium know the truth.and their crusade threw the warp to spread the imperial truth)
set apon the world to cleanse it in the name of the great crusade. they figured out after the 3rd world that they found that claimed to be part of the imperium but they all worshiped this emperor god. they where confronted and beaten back by the loyal space marines of the imperium who cared not to listen to them and seemed to worship this false god emperor. they wher beaten and wher forced to retreat back into the warp but not before they wher able to repair their nav systems and restock ther fleet. shortly after they came across a fleet of the black legion and learnt of horus's rebellion and the emperors betrail to humanity and discarding of his own imperial truth in his attempt to ascend to godhood. and swore or cleanse the imperium of the heretic believers in this false god emperor. as they continued their great crusade and the spreading of the imperial truth , in and outside the warp!

I'm working on a little thing myself, should have it finished tomorrow. Might be some ideas in there, if not I think I;m going to have to join the 'Mallal'-voters.
It will be a short piece of fiction providing some info on the legion its (if the idea catches on) origins.
