Where I live and game, I've spent some considerable time dealing with players who are convinced Dark Eldar are "teh suck" (sorry, couldnt resist  ), usually with such conviction that the only way I can convince them otherwise is to murder their favourite army with whichever DE army I happen to have around at the time (I have three different ones...).
Since this forum now allows me access to people from much farther away than my local games clubs/games workshop store, I thought I'd throw this out there: What do YOU think of the Dark Eldar?
(For reference, the only thing I don't actually like about them is about 75% of the models - I mean, what is it with those Wych/Grotesque models? Did the sculptors let their kids design them?)

To be honest they may phase them out heh, i don't think they are that popular as a whole, they'll end up being like squats. Not that i want them to be phased out it just seems GW is trying to revolutionise the current codexes to make them more simple.

My first 7 games of 40K were played using Dark Eldar. I won 5 of them. The army theme and mechanic is great, but the models just were not something I enjoyed. The models are either flimsy or sloppy. I do like the Scourges and the Wyches are not too bad, but the Warp Beasts and basic Warriors are terrible. Raiders look like pansy space orks built them.

As for game play, they are a very very competitive army made even more competitive because so many people underestimate them (and their 'outdated' codex).

Well yeah, my biggest problem has always been the look of the models - the only ones I can really cope with are the Incubi and the jetbikes (although not the riders). The latest army I'm doing has Wyches converted from dark elf witch elves - aint really decided what to do about the warriors yet, and I *know* I'm not a good enough modeller to tackle raider conversions. Still, a little at a time, eh? :p

Rumours out of GW HQ is that the Dark Eldar are being completely redone, ala Orks, for 2009 I believe. New dex, full new model range, everything.

I won't be holding my breath for that. I was told at GT 2006 by one of the designers that they (DE) would be redone by late 2007, early 2008. I hope not, but I really see them being let dip below the horizon by GW.

I thinkthey have potential to be a cool army, but it requires raiders, and raiders cost money, and i think we know where im going. Ive never seen a foot slogging DE win.

That's because DE are made of balsa wood and newspapaer and get mowed down by anything. DE need the Raiders for speed. Glancing hits only are a godsend for delicate DE.
