Hey guys I have always wanted to start up a project log and have just never got around to doing it. But all that is changing now. I live and work in china as an English teacher in a kindergarten, but I am back in the UK for a month and want to get as much of my dark eldar painted so I have can leave some of it behind until I return. this however does not mean that this log will only last a month. I have a bit of a surprise project I plan on taking back with me, but I will save that to show you all later.

So a little about the army. Dark eldar where the 1st army I started with back in 2008, this was when the models where awful and the rules where so complicated it gave me nose bleeds. I then started moving between all the other armies trying to find one for me. I was unsuccessful to say the least although i do have a sizable ork army. I drifted away from 40k and onto fantasy for many years with great success. but now I am back and returning to my old love that is dark eldar.

I wanted the models to look nice on the tabletop but not take to much time to paint or model. the way I decided to do this was use a limited paint pallet and nice basing to achieve this. I also wanted a unformed look between the vehicles and infantry models but with them being different. again I think I achieved this so far but any comments are welcome.

anyway onto the army. it is quite small at the moment but it is very much a work in progress.

kabalite warriors

raider

wyches

reaver jetbikes

incubi

archon

venom

ok guys let me know what you thing :)

Overall, I really like the colour scheme you have worked out there.
I think that your red is very vibrant and your bone coloured vehicles look great - the unevenness of the colour really enhances the model.
If I could mention some areas for improvement, I think that your blacks look too matte, the final effect being somewhat unfinished - I think that with some extreme grey highlights that could be fixed. Also, your metals come across as being only one paint deep, perhaps wash down then layer up or use some of the dry technical paints to change the overall colour?

Yeah I agree about the black its something I really need to do. I just hate highlighting black haha, maybe a few choice highlights here and there would be better than nothing though.
And thanks the unevenness of the vehicles stared as a happy accident when i was trying to fix something and then just went with it haha.

really cool idea..like the scheme works well..noce to see a different take on them
Thanks man :). And yeah I wanted to do less tron dark eldar and more deprived eldar.

So a double post. I hope nothing bad happens...... "looks out window and the world is ending"

Also its not a very exciting post its just a quick wip of my next unit. They are personally some of my favorite models that GW make. And now the rues are actually usable :D WIN!

I'm also a little unsure what colour to do the flames, i was thinking green would be good because [email protected] a contracting colour. However the flames on my archon are purple so maybe go for purple flames, anyway let me know.

I really like how the vehicles came out
Thanks a lot :).

So I've had an idea and i need some thoughts on it. i have been thinking about the black and how it needs highlighting, instead of highlighting the hair how about i just give every wytch a crazy hair colour ? :D:D

Let me know.

i think grey hair would be good..it would match all the army together..and you could just add different shade to the hair to add a bit of flavor

I kind of like the riotous hair varieties plan, but I think sticking to two or three different colours would look best. If you then washed them down with the same wash tone they'd probably look quite good in the unit all together. Maybe a violet, a dark green and a brown?

ok so its been a few days since I last updated. But I have finished my next unit. I didn't manage to do any work on the mandrakes mainly because I got hold of a lovely little kit that I just needed to build and paint strait away. The base is not done yet but it will fall in line with the other bases I have so brass rod with lots of cork board.

I really like what you've done with that paint scheme, it is one of my favourite (still unowned) models and it's great to see interesting takes on it. I find that when I do black glass a highlight on one corner of the glass and a pair of thin lines running diagonally from that light source corner away give the black a lot more depth and help with the glass look. For example, if you look at the crashed aquilla lander in my blog you will see what I mean.

This is exactly what I meant. It adds depth that normal varnish can't. And Iraqiel is very good at doing it the way he does
