My local hobby shop is having a tourney on July 31st for new players and I thought that would be the perfect opportunity for me to play my first Fantasy game. It is supposed to be 1000 points but has not been set for sure. With the new edition coming out I have no idea whats going to be effective but I'm trying to make the list with models that I have currently. Here's what I'm planning so far;

Heroes:
Herald of Slaanesh (trying to keep her cheap for 1000 points)

Core:
Daemonettes x 14
Full Command

Bloodletters x 15
Full Command

Special:
Flesh Hounds x 6

Seekers of Slaanesh x 5
Banner and Musician

All of that brings me to about 850 points I believe. I'm wondering what you guys think I should do to finish it out. Should I upgrade the units I have? Make the Herald a lvl 1 mage or upgrade her? Or should I add something else I dont currently have? Any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.

I figured I would post up the results from how my first three games of WFB went and how my list did.

First off I ended up replacing the seekers for a 10 man unit of horrors and I added a Herald of Tzeentch(Lore of Life) to the list. Everything else remained the same. I thought that the Herald could use a bodyguard especially since I knew I was going to be terrible at deploying and protecting him. They served their purpose at protecting my herald but pretty much did nothing otherwise. I will probably ditch them in the future when I'm more confident in being able to keep the Herald alive without them.

My first game was against a Dogs of War army that was very shooty. Basically my opponent out deployed me, outmanuevered me, and out played me. I got massacred in four turns. I learned not to be too chintzy with my power dice. I lost two rounds of casting by trying to be too conservative with my dice. Lesson learned.

My second game was against Ogre Kingdoms. My opponent was as big a noob as I was so at least that would help my cause. He did pretty bad with his deployment and had is units spread too far apart. I ended up ganging up on them and destroying them one by one. Massacre for me in 5 turns.

My third match I was finally starting to get a feel for the army. I got matched up with an Orcs and Goblins army. I had to deploy my whole army first and had to roll for each troop to see if they deployed normally or came in as a reserve unit. Everything deployed normally except for my HoT. I got first turn and basically kept everything back to allow the Herald to catch up. He came in on the back board edge. Me not moving allowed my opponent to get the upper hand in setting up charges. Basically my fleshhounds got charged by a unit of orc boys, then my Letters got them in the flank. I managed to get my daemonettes far enough up to keep his Black orcs from being able to then flank the Letters. My flesh hounds and Bloodletters destroyed his boys but then got me out of position after running them down. Meanwhile my Daemonettes were getting pounded by his Black orcs. Next my Bloodletters got flank charged by his arrer boys, sticking them in place. Then came a critical cast of Flesh to Stone (+4 toughness) on the Daemonettes, followed by The Dwellers Below on his Black Orcs. The Nettes then managed to break the Black Orcs that turn and run them down. After that they charged the Arrer boys in the flank and my opponent conceded the game.

Overall it was a great learning experience. My Flesh Hounds, Bloodletters, and Herald of Tzeentch were pretty solid for me. The Daemonettes were pretty average and the Horrors didnt do much of anything except provide a LoS roll for the Herald on one occasion. I think I will replace the horrors with either flamers or seekers for my next game.

well firstly well done, seems likes you did reasonably well for your first games. Secondly i reckon you got jibbed in the first game. Dogs of war haven't exsisted as an official army for 5 or so years so i'm doubting that the person you played first was actually a beginner.

I'm actually planning to replace the horrors with either seekers or flamers. I'm interested in trying the seekers out and utilizing the vanguard move to get the jump on warmachine crews.

@ jigg: the guy I played in the first game was not a new player but he was there to fill in if we had an odd number of players. He was actually pretty helpful while he handed me my ass.

@ Drax: I would like to put my HoT on a disc or give him wings but I didn't have the points for it at 1k. I would have had to drop Mastery of Sorcery on him otherwise.
