I imagine it's a D weapon that makes other weapons snap shoot and rolls two dice and picks the highest for armour pens.

Not gunna lie, I'm confused by your confusion. Could you be a bit more specific about what it is you don't understand?

well ordnance rule is that you use 2 dice for armor pen picking the highest
and d weapons don't role for armor pen

so would u you too role 2 dice on the d table or is there just no point in having this

You do not roll two dice on the D table since you are not rolling for armour penetration (forgot they don't roll for this). There are still the restrictions on firing Ordnance for infantry that has moved, as we all as all other weapons on vehicles snap shoot the turn Ordnance is fired.

I guess with the proliferation of D weapons among units that aren't super-heavies there must be some restriction sometimes.

having looked at the rulebook for Ordnance weapons;

Ordnance Weapons are the big guns on the battlefield- cannons so vast they have to be mounted on tanks & artillery Pg 41 in Rulebook

It states that, when shooting a model with an ordnance weapon fires the number of times indicated in its profile after its type. A non-vehicle model carrying an Ordnance weapon cannot fire it in the shooting phase if he moved in the preceeding Movement phase. Ordnance weapons cannot fire snap shots. Furthermore, if a non-vehicle model fires an Ordnance weapon, then the massive recoil from the Ordnance weapon means that the model cannot fire other weapons in that Phase, nor will it be able to charge in the ensuing Assault Phase.
Ordnance weapons hit with such force that when you roll to penetrate a vehicles armour with an Ordnance weapon, roll 2 dice instead of 1 & pick the highest result!

furthermore on Page 73
It states;
Vehicles & Ordnance Weapons
Unlike other units, vehicles can move and fire with Ordnance weapons. However, a vehicle that fires an Ordnance weapon can only make Snap Shots with its other weapons that turn. A vehicle that moved at Cruising Speed can still Snap Shoot Ordnance, but of course, cannot fire any Ordnance weapon that cannot be fired as Snap Shots.

Okay so now onto the Lynx..... Page 194 IA11 2nd Edition
It has different firing modes which are
Saturation 48" Str D Ap 2 Ordnance 1, Lge blast 5"

So moving below cruising speed 1 dice & a huge template for pie-plate goodness :biggrin: & of course being a D weapon you don't roll to penetrate just roll on D table

Salvo 24" Str D Ap 2 Ordnance 3, Twin-linked :shok:

So moving below crusing speed 3 dice & being Twin-linked re-rolling any misses on the 3 dice
