HOMEWORLD

Mars, in its infinte glory, the 'Wonder of the Galaxy', sits glowing red against the void of space. Titanic orbital factories circle it, their ceaseless industry forming complex rings and halos about its body.

The Adeptus Mechanicus resides there; Its untold billions of servitors and the Cult Mechanicus tech-priests, the devoted servants of its techno-arcane Machine God: the Omnissiah, toil ceaselessly in an effort to advance mankinds scientific endeavours. Few know then, of what lies beneath...

Noctis Labyrinthus, "the Labyrinth of the Night", is a region of Mars between the Valles Marineris and the Tharsis upland.
The region is notable for its maze-like system of deep, steep-walled valleys. The valleys and canyons of this region were formed by faulting and many show classic features of grabens, with the upland plain surface preserved on the valley floor. In some places the valley floors are rougher, disturbed by landslides,
there are places where the land appears to have sunk down into pit-like formations. It is thought that this faulting was triggered by volcanic activity in the Tharsis region.
The area is more or less empty as those adepts of the Adeptus Mechanicus who attempted to found their forges there were plagued by technical problems, it is unknown why these problems do not afffect Nocturnal, the Chapter's Fortress Monastery.

Below this area is the chamber where the Dragon of Mars is imprisoned.

FORTRESS MONASTERY

The Children of the Dragon maintain their Fortress Monastery: Nocturnal, in the zone known as Noctis Labyrinthus. Built half into the walls of the valleys that comprise this natural maze and half on the surface; Its placement provides defensible positions and natural choke points all the way to the very site they protect making a ground attack a hazardous prospect. Air attacks will have no easier a time in attacking either as an uncountable number of air defense batteries and bunkers dot the landscape on the plateau's above, the ever vigilant eye of the Hydra defense platform supported by Lasannon emplacements.

These plateau's also provide space for airfields housing the Chapter's compliment of Thunderhawks and other subsidary aircraft. Far above, the Chapter's only space faring vessel: Imperator Draconis, sits in geo stationary orbit in a specially built and well defended dock.

- HISTORY -

"It's all the Dragon remembers...Or at least a version of its memories. It's hard to tell what's real and what's not sometimes. I listen to its impotent roars of hatred as it watches from its gaol on Mars and write what comes out...But truth, as of all things, is a moving target. What of this is real and what is fantasy...well, who can tell."

+++ Adept Symon, Former Guardian of the Dragon +++

BELIEFS AND REPUTATION

Like their founding Chapter, The Children of the Dragon are as unmovable and unforgiving as the ground upon which they walk. In battle little can stop them, Plasma bolts vaporise enemy lines piece by piece as the Children of the Dragon advance upon them; as inorexable as the tide they come, all must die, none shall live to speak of their 'Charge' to the tainted and weak, minds not fit for such knowlegde.
Resiliency of the mind and body, even discounting their Bionics, is higher than most Space Marine Chapters, partly due to their recruits coming from the Hive Cities on Mars and Terra.
Their penchant for Bionic augmentation has also carried over, but the Children of the Dragon have easier access then their parent Chapter.

GENESEED

As with their founding Chapter, the Iron Hands, there are no notable flaws in the Geneseed of the Children of the Dragon.
There are always those who will cry foul of their close ties to the Mechanicum but even the Inquisition seem uninterested in the nigh symbiotic relationship the Children of the Dragon have with the Adeptus Mechanicus.

ORGANISATION

The Children of the Dragon are a non Codex Chapter, any similarities are merely coincidence or examples of best use for a specific wing.
Master of the Forge Alysia Rosae leads the Chapter with Cognatus and Carmine as Commanders Secundus. Cognatus and Carmine also act as advisors to Alysia.

No Devastator squad are used, Dreadnoughts or Thunderfire Cannons are favoured in fire support roles.
The Children of the Dragon also have several Land Raiders, including a few examples of the Proteus and Achilles variants.
The 1st Company 'Plasma Brethren' contains 75 Veterans.

Recruitment
Any Tech Adept or Priest wishing to experience a life of war outside of his or her duties to the Mechanicum come to the Children of the Dragon; Already well versed in the art of war and augmented beyond that of normal humans, they make excellent Space Marines.
Another source are those chosen from among the hives on Mars and Terra; Rife with famine and crime, corruption and free ranging Gangers, life is a constant test of ones endurance and strength of will, These are qualities that make prime candidates for the honor of ascending to a position in the ranks of the Chapter should they live through the tests, trials and transformations that comprise the process.

Equipment
Almost as fevered as their want for Bionic augmantations: Plasma technology is favoured among all wings of the Children of the Dragon. Adeptus Mechanicus ties give near limitless access to the best equipment that is produced, including a rare 'vent system' for man portable Plasma weaponry.

Notes:

Only HISTORY remains to be completed as of 26/02/12 23:00Hrs

In 'Homeworld' the more eagle eyed among you may notice the description of the Noctis Labyrinthus is a Copy/Paste from Lexicanum; This was done because all that was required for that part of the entry was a description of the place in question, and as Lexicanum provides one, and i have no interest in changing it, i simply used it to save time.
I despise plagiarism in all its forms.

I wrote some Fluff for this custom Chapter some time ago now but it had huge holes in it and lacked anything resembling creativity (I was probably tired at the time). So, i decided to re-write it.
Some parts of it may seem unclear or lack any kind of descriptive text and/or reasoning; This is because the main reason for the Chapter's existence has yet to be written fully and i want to avoid posting up what little i have written to avoid confusion.

If you have questions post them up here or PM me.

C&C Welcome

It is an interesting chapter, but I wonder whether they are their to guard the Dragon or they are their to protect the Machine God. Is this going to be part of your pending explanation or am I reading too much into it? Over all, however, it is a very well developed chapter thus far.

The Machine God is the Omnissiah who the Mechanicum believe (atleast officially) is the Emperor.
your Fluff-fu is out a little :)

However the only thing that the Children of the Dragon are interested in is keeping the Dragon of Mars under lock and Key, as the Emperor, in his infinite wisdom, decreed it be.

Thank you :)

Well, I was going off of some of the speculation that the Dragon actually IS the Machine God as he has been worshiped by Techpriests even before the Age of Strife. But it is your chapter, your take on the fluff, and as I said, still a good chapter no matter how you cut the fluff. Looking forward to more.

Aside from being a grammar nazi, I have a question about this. From everything I've read about the Space Marine creation process, a neophyte needs to be in their early teens to undergo the implantation process successfully. Also, having done a bit of research on the Tech Priests, there are a great many of them who prefer 'conversion' over the flesh. As such, a great many of them might not be suitable to receive the gene-seed and other organic implants given their penchant for removing as much of the flesh as possible.

Why do I bring this up? Because I want to understand your fluff and enjoy it :p

In addition to the point jonileth raised (recruits have to be teenagers or younger) i feel there is an issue with the Chapter being based in the Noctis Labrynth itself. It is a forbidden zone on Mars, to enter is on pain of death. It's an area shrouded in rumour and superstition. I don't see an Astartes chapter being given permission to be based there (or the higher up in the Mechanicus wanting anyone poking around there).

I'm aware though that that aspect of their fluff is one of their defining features and removing it would fundamentally change their character but i'd thought id bring it up.

The Mechanicus would never permit anyone in there knowingly.

But you could easily say they are based in the Sol System around Mars and maintain a contingent in the Noctis beyond the AdMech's awareness. :)

Very interesting fluff.

This looks pretty good and as for what others have said about the Mechanicus not letting the chapter be built there with out their permission...........why wouldn't they give it maybe it is forbidden to go there b/c they are aiding and hiding female space marines?
