Inconsistent, to some point. In general i feel both assessement can be true. There can be resentment, but its alpha legion we are talking about...they campaigned successfully alongside their "enemy" to dull them with a sense of false security...later, in fact, they betrayed!
however this is just me interpetating, i'm not going to defend the poor writings of Heresy books or Wh40k fluff in general
