Is not the magical banner a magical item?

FotBG say 'character may not equip magic items but gains'...

I'm really sorry, I should have made that clear.

If the gift says no magic items, that means he can't have a magical banner. The Blood God would be most upset if you tried to give him one :p

In RAW terms it's like this - "the BSB can have a magical banner", fury of the blood god says "the character cannot carry any magic items". In this case, the wording of FotBG overrules the option to choose a magic banner.

It's not a matter of one taking precedence over the other, (like the old 5th Edition Magical bonus versus Mundane bonus - r.e ASF from Magic Weapon trumping Pikes ASF), but the fact that one actively blocks you from taking a Magic Item.

Only time that I find that the gift is that useful is on a Daemon Prince of Tzeentch, funnily enough. Level 4 Caster 3+ Ward Save, MR2, give it Soporific Musk, and then either Diabolic Splendour, Third Eye, or Stream of Corruption.
