i have 2 cadian snipers in a special weapon squad.
However i have looked through the new ig codex and cant find any rules for guard sniper rifles! do they follow the space marine sniper rules? or something else

Sniper weapons are in the core rulebook. They all need a 2+ to hit and a 4+ to wound against anything. AP varies sometimes, so use the entry in the IG codex in the summary on p. 63.
i love that rule especially when people have modifiers thinking it changes sniper rifles

Ratlings in a ruin+with the sharpshooter doctrine= overkill
If you read the sharpshooters doctrine, you'll find that Ratlings can't benefit from it.

nah, the main strength of a sniper rifle is he fac its easy to hit and wound.

either way, ratlings are a lot better snipers imo.
It's not that easy to wound. Consider shooting a Sniper Rifle at a Carnifex with T7 versus a Krak Rocket at the same target. Sniper needs a 4+, whereas a Rocket needs a 3+. It gets worse when you consider a Rocket vs a T6 target or lower, even with an average BS3, the Rocket is effectively as good as the sniper rifle (4+ to hit 2+ to wound, as opposed to 2+ to hit 4+ to wound) with the added bonus of a much better AP, the ability to cause Instant Death against T4 and lower.

Units equipped with sniper rifles, including Ratlings, can't actually benefit from the sharpshooter doctrine. The codex explains it as, "the slightest inaccuracy ruins the shot."

EDIT: Triumph of Man beat me to it.

true, but it is more expensive than a ratling with a rifle. you also couldnt fit 10 into an army, unless you were really trying.

and you couldn't fit 10 rockets into one squad. It's better to compare a sniper rifle against something like a hellgun, where it outdoes it at long range but can't keep up the volume of shots at short range.

i use a squad of ratlings and i really like the idea of them, but i can't really get my head around having a squad of snipers, or three snipers that have to be joined by three normal guys with lasguns. surely a sniper team should (at the max) be 2 guys, a sniper and a spotter. having a specialist weapon team of snipers is poor imo
