I've started to pick up Space Wolves as an army. So far I've bought a Venerable Dread and the Warriors of the Fang box set. Nothing has been assembled as of yet.

What is the best way to continue with building this army? What special weapon choices are ideal on Grey Hunters, as the kit only has a Plasma gun in it. I've also considered buying the new Devastator box in place of the Long Fang box, since it has more weapons in that. Any suggestions?

While I'm a firm believer that people should play what they want/think looks coolest/think has the best rules for their army's needs, all of the SM boxes are brilliantly interchangeable, Missile Launchers are awesome in Long Fang squads (not that I play them, but I've faced them :/), and Plasma is what most of the SW players I know use in their Grey Hunter squads. If you have some SW bling, fire it on those SM Devs and prosper. As a BA player, I have thoroughly enjoyed from the plethora of fancy bits and gribbles available to us unique little snowflake Chapters.

Sounds like a great start to me!

It all really depends on the route you want to take. Are you going for an elite based army with small model counter and all the bells and whistles or as many boots on the table as you can manage? Best place (and probably most boring) I'd recommend starting is getting some transport arranged for those wolf units. You need a way of getting them up the board to mid table at least as I find static wolves are dead wolves. Were you thinking of running the wolf pack units from the box as grey hunters or blood claws? If BC I'd looking into an assault vehicle, a landraider or stormfang does very nicely. If GH, the standard rhino does wonders for a large number of guys.

Special weapons for GH are dependent on what you want the unit to do. I run my GH's at a small 5 man demo unit, 1 melta, 1 combi-melta and a melta bomb. But plasma does seem to be the weapon of choice for the majority of players.

New devastator box is awesome, definitely would get one. A few wolf bits and you're well away! Just a shame we can't use the grav-cannons

I find that grey hunters are

My main SW player does a drop pod style of army with GHs with as much Plasma/Melta in as many pods as wants to bring (he has like 11 - which can be very mean) with some Dreadnought support.
