Hi all,

I just thought I'll ask you fellow heretics about brushes. See mine are quite dead now and so I need a suitable replacement. I'm no Picasso but enjoy painting, specially detailing my models as much as I can, so I'm on the lookout for good hobby brushes.

Now, there's always the possibility of buying GW brushes, more so now that they are launching the Mega Paint Set. What are your experiences with these brushes? Is there any other brand you use because of their quality/usability?

Ok that's that. Hope to hear your comments/thoughts.

Cheers!

For me, GW brushes are perfectly good. As far as I'm aware (and there's the possibility it's changed) they are made of Sable, which is very desirable; they aren't too expensive, although doubtless if you know where to go you could get cheaper. They work well with the paint and come in a range of useful sizes. Plus, they're readily available.
Like I say, there will be other, better brushes out there, but GW ones will be easily good enough; hell, 'Eavy Metal use them, so they must be somewhat useful!

GW brushes are fine. While there are better out there (W+N series 7 for example) they tend to cost a fortune and are only really needed for insanely good painters, even then there isn't THAT much difference having used S7 and GW on and off for years.

I've been highly recommended to try these from some very good miniature painters, so i'll be ordering some in the next week or so.

The prices aren't bad at all providing you are just after detail brushes.

For the money, the GW brushes are very hard to beat. I have a mix of the old red ones, old blue ones and the new black brushes, and all of them have held up to the abuse I put them through. For the price the quality is excellent. The new black ones I have had for a while now, (and I use them almost exclusively) have not lost a single bristle and the tip is as good as the day I bought them.

There really isn't a need to spend uber amounts of cash on a brush unless you are one of those slayer sword winners...

I stopped competing for the sword when i found out that you didnt get to keep it and that you cant use it on Donkeys
Donkeys are too fast and nimble for you to get a proper kill with a hand weapon. You need ranged attacks. Crossbows, rifles, hand cannons, remote detonation mines...

Wait... why am I helping you with donkey hunting!!! :ireful2:

I went to a local art shop and got some Westart synthetics for 2 bucks apiece. I bought 5 brushes for the price of one GW brush, and they have been just as good for me. The only problem was that they hold *some* colours, mainly reds. So I just got another one to use just for red paints, and another to use just for whites. It still worked out a lot cheaper than the GW brushes, and I'm happier with them than the two GW brushes I do have.

Personally I've always used the GW brushes from the old red ones, right up to the new black ones, never had any problems with them. I've tried cheaper alternatives, and they just aren't as good for various reasons such as not holding a point etc. and the more expensive ones.. well, frankly they're just more expensive versions of the same brush that GW does in my opinion.

Rnage weapons are cheating, with Donkeys you have to get up close and personal, strangling them with there own show laces is a good one!
Unless you are facing a really angry donkey in which case you'll need that ranged weapon. No need to get a donkey-kick in the groin....

The GW brushes are just brilliant! My art teacher even said that they were some of the best brushes she had seen thus far!

And off topic; The only way to kill donkeys is to get up close and personal!
