I think i have asked this before but--

Where can i get pieces to make boards? You know that pinky foam stuff that cuts nicely?

I heard you can get it at Home Depot/Lowes etc.

But--dont those come in huge pieces? Can they cut them for you?

What is a good board size?

if i were you i'd make boards out of Low Density fiberboard and add things on top, rather than cut down.

When my little bro gets home I'll ask him what he made his out off - they look pretty dam good and I think it was quite simple. Plus I'll post some pics of them. (they were designed for LOTR's but we have used them for small 40k battles as well) - he plays LOTR's not me I just want to add.

Even if you go to Home Depot and get a 4x8 sheet, you can keep the excess for later projects Anph.

The names are rather annoying. I assumed styrofoam was the white, bubbly, chunk shit.

But then there appeares to be "blue foam, pink foam, yellow foam, ass-colored foam" etc.

I'm looking for this:http://www.societyofrobots.com/images/robot_thai_boat_foam_core.jpg
Cuz thats the closest to what i see the guys at GW tinkering with.

But in longer, flatter sheets like 4x8 like WL said, That way i can put that on a wooden base, and make it soft, like earth and make areas of terrain.

Then, with the extra, i can make terrain which i can remove and put on depending on the game type/ what mood we are in/etc.

If you need a table base go to Lowe's and ask for insulation foam. It comes in 4 foot X 8 foot sheets with varying thicknesses.

the white chunky stuff is called polstyrene. the good foam is styrene or styrofoam
That is not the case. Unless its classified different in your area.

Styrofoam is a brand name (like Band-Aid)But the common perspective is that "styrofoam" is white and chunky/bubbly (like the formed foam packaged with things like stereo eqipment) ... example:

Extruded Polystyrene insulation are sheets of compressed foam that have an "R" rating for insulating industrial and residential builings. It is made by several companies including Dow under the Styrofoam brand name. It can be blue, pink, white and other colors... example:

Hope that helps. see my post on useage here
