I know this may seem like a silly question but i recently played a 1800 point game against my ork friend and squashed him with overwhelming fire from snipers and devastators.
So should be the heart of a blood angel army cc or range?

Core should be Jump Pack Assault Marines/Sanguinary Guard; if you want to go all Fluffy like.
In the end, thought, its down to you.
Mines really Fluffy like and my BA Assault Marines all have 2 Chainswords each

I always make sure my sanguinary guard is in my army, usually headed by the sanguintor or mephiston, so they are a huge cc presence, i also like to to have a furioso dread librarian and/or a death company dread as back up for them but often after that theres only room for maybe one more assault squad after i add range and tanks in to the army

i don't play blood angels, but i have played i guy who was- his army had few ranged units (snipers and i think a dev. squad) but he totalled me with his vet. j-pack assault guys (don't know all the blood angels unit names) and i think it was sons of sanguine. I would definetly go assault.
.....but devs are still cool

A balanced BA list like yours is always good. I went ALL cc in a tourny and did okay.... until they brought out a defiler battle cannon....nuff said.

just because they can shoot them to bits doesn't mean you should. the is few things in the BA codex that love shooting, Vindicators and Raven's are good example and excel at anti-tank. However if you want a ranged force then go for vanillia marines as BA's are combat pure and simple.
