So here is my 1st go at the new codex. Same same but different really, I started with Dante and SG but that just were a bit too much. Thoughts are appreciated.

Will be playing 2000 points against SW probably and using +1 I grouping. They'll have a flyer, two at most (likely 1).

Game plan is simple, move up fast units together, hide Astorath and a DC behind a couple vehicle (cover at least or block most of sight), drop frag near infantry or modest vehicle if no other option (no convinced on whether HF or M is best, just put M for versatility at this point) and thinking about either fielding or placing cheaper DC squad in Stormraven. Small tacts at back with defence line for AA and general back field holding.

There is 5 points left but there is also some fat in the list (i.e a fair few options on units). I'm not to keen on large tactical squad, but just wanted some numbers up there (could swap to something like a cheap assault squad and some bikes/attack bikes/add cheap character/small DC/beef up existing DC's)

Again I think its okay but not amazing so thoughts would be good.

Reorganizing for clarity

Astorath

8x DC (packs, PF + PS)
8x DC (packs, 2x PS)
Podded Furioso (Frag + Melta)

10x Tac. (vet, PF, Combi-melta, melta, hf, Rhino)
5x Tac. (las)
5x Tac. (flak ml)

5x RAS (2x Melta, combi-melta, Rhino)
5x RAS (2x Melta, combi-melta, Rhino)

2x Overcharged vindi (shield, SB)
SR (AC/MM/EA)

Aegis

1) put RAS in pods if you're just popping tanks with them (this also lets you wait to drop the fragioso if you want)
2) on the furioso, pick one! flames or melta. Not actually necessary, but I like to. Then you have 1 dropping flames (fragioso) and 2 dropping melta (RAS)
3) Drop the 3rd Tac. for another assaulty unit/buffer assault units. Two medium threats is not enough.
4) No PF on the Tac. and pick one! Plan to be able to have all your special weapons in 1 combat squad just in case. Run a ton of flamers.
5) less superfluous upgrades, more bodies. Your squads are small but well equipped - remember, boys before toys. You can have that PF and those meltas, but many points could be better placed

Cheers JAMOB for retyping and critique (had a powerclaw not fist but that's not important)

So I've focused on getting more squads in the opponents face with this revision. The RAS in the rhino will help others pop transports and dropping dreads. I am finding it hard to come up with large squads as command squad, RAS, Tact, Sang Guard, bikes and attack bikes all lend themselves to staying small (or investing a premium)

Astorath

10x DC (packs, PF + PS)
10x DC (packs, PF + PS)
Podded Furioso (Frag + Heavy Flamer)
Podded Command Squad (melta x3)

5x Tac. (ml)
5x Tac. (ml)

Podded 5x RAS (2x Melta, combi-melta)
5x RAS (2x Melta, Rhino)
5x RAS (2x Melta, Rhino)

2x Overcharged vindi (SB)
SR (AC/MM)

Thoughts?

Personally I would drop one of the DC squads to buff the Tacticals up to 10 man (with Lascannon/SW of your choice) and change the Command squad over to a Sternguard squad with combi-meltas.

I'm not a fan of the two RAS in Rhinos, but hey. You'll either see why I don't like them in your first game or they'll work for you.

Okay so not heaps a love for that list (mech). I'm thinking about a drop alternative (substitute cups here I come.

My main confusion with this list was whether to substitute a DC with Sand Guard (less bodies no FNP) and whether to swap Sang Priest with a Librarian prop level 2 in term for Sternguard.

Thought

Dante

Priest

8x DC (packs, PF + PS)

I like that list a lot. I'm not sold on the Grav weaponry on Sternguard since they have the poisoned shot with their Bolters, but you have enough Melta in the RAS that I think you might have it covered. I would drop the Power Swords in the DC for an extra Combi-Grav in the Sternguard, as well as a Lightning Claw and Melta Bombs for the Priest if I were to run it, just a personal preference I guess. This is assuming the Priest has a Jump Pack, since you haven't included it in your list. Otherwise drop the Swords in the DC for a Claw and Pack for him.

I don't have time to run the points here, but if you wanted to include Sanguinary Guard what if you ran something like this where you dropped the Dreadnought (who would have been First Blood bait if you didn't go first anyway) and ran two HQs and a LOW?

Dante

Libby - ML2 (Wings of Sanguinius would be great for Sternguard to have!)

Priest - JP, LC/PS (whatever you have)

10x DC (packs, PF)
5x Sanguinary Guard (PF)
Podded Furioso (Frag + Heavy Flamer)
Podded 9x Sternguard (3x Combi-Grav)

5x Tac. (Lascannon)

Podded 5x RAS (2x Melta, combi-melta)
Podded 5x RAS (2x Melta, combi-melta)
Podded 5x RAS (2x Melta, combi-melta)

I'll think I'll try the following in the next week and just see what happens. I'll play with the a points a bit, but I have the models so its easy enough (except Drop Pods, I found 2/3 of a drop pod kit at home yesterday, which just sucks)

Dante

Libby - ML2 (With Stern prob divination, but codex or bio could work)

Priest - JP, Relic Ap2 Blade

6x Sanguinary Guard (PF)
9x DC (packs, PF)

Podded Furioso (Frag + Heavy Flamer)
Podded 9x Sternguard (1x Power Claw)

5x Tac. (Lascannon)
5x Tac. (Lascannon)

Podded 5x RAS (2x Melta, combi-melta)
Podded 5x RAS (2x Melta, combi-melta)
Podded 5x RAS (2x Melta, combi-melta)

So I ended up running the following

Dante

Corbulo

Priest - JP, Relic Ap2 Blade, MB

6x Sanguinary Guard (PF)
8x DC (packs, PF)

Podded Furioso (Frag + Heavy Flamer)
Podded 9x Sternguard (1x Power Claw)

5x Tac. (Lascannon)
5x Tac. (Lascannon)

Podded 5x RAS (2x Melta, combi-melta)
Podded 5x RAS (2x Melta, combi-melta)
Podded 5x RAS (2x Melta, combi-melta)

SR (AC/MM)

Basically went too well to truly say it works (they conceded in turn 2), but:

- Corbulo and Sternguard dropped and moved into building near the centre and took out wolf things and two wounds off of lord in two turns (was about to be assaulted)
- Furioso dropped and took out long fang squad
- Tacts hid and survived a round of a grey hunter shooting (podded), combined with a RAS shot them back to pieces (then they ran off board, which was unlucky)
- SR took out their flyer (immobilized) when it had a large squad in it

They decided not to take thunderwolves so that would have made it harder.
I didn't take the lib cos I couldn't decide on the powers, I thought Corbulo's +1 to I and W and the FNP was just easier. Also I love hellfire so hitting on 3's and then wounding on 2's means they do a fair bit without the lib.
Probably just change one RAS to flamers x2 and hand flamers x2 next time, but not entirely sure.

Awesome to hear you won brother :drinks:

Personally the only thing I would change is Corbs running the Sternguard. If FnP is all you're after, toss in a normal Priest. Does your squad that relies on firing Rapid Fire weapons really need the extra Initiative? I agree that hitting on 3's means you don't really need Prescience as well, but you can take a ML1 Libby and a Priest for 5 points more Corbulo so you still get the WS/FnP bonus but also get Prescience.

Dual Hand Flamers in RAS makes me happy. I just wish Gunslinger affected Overwatch as well, it would be SO nice.

Looks good, you could drop the combi melta on your sgts, and actually go with 2x inferno pistols and fire both using the gun slinger rules. I know they dont get g.s. on overwatch but more than one and done.

Sadly 30 points extra for a sgt is a bit pricy for me especially as he still isn't a vet. At least 2 flamers and 2 hand flamers cost the same as a combi and 2 meltas.

Could be changed to this, which has its pros and cons:

Dante

Priest - JP, Relic Ap2 Blade

6x Sanguinary Guard (PF)
10x DC (packs, PF)

Podded Furioso (Frag + Heavy Flamer)
Podded Furioso (Frag + Heavy Flamer)
Podded 10x Sternguard (1x Power Claw and storm shield possibly)

5x Tac. (Lascannon)
5x Tac. (Lascannon)

Podded 5x RAS (2x Melta, combi-melta)
Podded 5x RAS (2x Melta, combi-melta)

If you take one of those Furioso pods as a fast attack option then you could reserve your entire army if you ever choose by putting the dread and a tac into the SR and the other tac can take the pod. I'm still trying to figure out what scenario you'd ever want to do that in, I just saw that and it didn't change anything on the list.
