Could you guys give me your opinions on this color scheme. A story will probably follow. I just want to see what you guys think before I do the highlights.

Bad pics I know - sorry.

Looks a little black templarish, I think it could use a little more grey or silver in the base colour. Actually, even just a bit more grey or silver in the highlights or certain areas would work. But overall, I think its a great start

@AA: The highlights for him arn't done at all -thats the part of painting I hate the most so I thought I'd post this guy up, get your opinions and then paint up the rest of them to this standard before doing the highlights. I think I get what you mean though and my brother did comment that the bottom half looked black while the top half looked silver. What do you think of adding silver to the feet - a bit like this:

@Hespithe: Cheers mate - should be up by the end of the week.

it looks too black templary and not grey knight enough for my liking my grey knights have bolt gun metal chests and skull white arms and legs with blue ink over them. the still look grey knight-ish but not like every other grey knight army you see

Deathwatch are cool, too. Go with what you like, Jacobite. There are many shades of grey. Yours is just a bit darker than the norm. ;)

highlight it with a codex gray and mithril mix, that might do it, otherwise, it looks very grey knightish to me.

Are you actually doing them up as Grey Knights or a chapter of your own making? That will make all the difference to me in my opinion so far. I will admit that I am not a fan of black as the main colour for any model however. Too often looks like pure basecoat with a few details painted on.

@Wraith: At the moment I'm going with them as being Grey Knights. I was having them as this chapter here

http://www.heresy-online.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1371

but the reception wasn't that great so I thought I'd just go with normal Grey Knights.

The Black isn't highlighted/shaded and the chances are I will be adding white or silver free hand to the lower legs and the shoulder pads. And add some silver to the groin + probably replace the gold on the torso with silver - just to get some more silver in there.

Actually, look nearly identical to my old Grey Knights. This is actually close to the first "official" color scheme. Look at their index astartes article back in the day someday. You'll find the Grey Knights were indeed black with silver trim, and red and white trim here and there. You did a good representation of that.

Ah thats right! - I knew I had got the color scheme from somewhere I just couldn't remember where. Now thats embarrasing - I actually have the WD article with it in it and the first mini I did up with it was exactly like the picture but then I ruined it by accident. Welcome back by the way blkdymnd - its been a while since we've seen you.

I'd say keep the black. People know it's not templar cause of the GK models, so it's easy enough. Don't highlight too far though. Go Black -> Black+Adeptus Battlegrey -> Adeptus. Don't go further.
For the trim, I'd suggest a really bright silver outlined with gold. Base the trim with Tin Bitz, then some Dwarf Bronze. Then Highlight with chainmail and then Mithril Silver.

Just an idea, but I reckon it would look good. Maybe try it?

If you want your Grey Knight to stand out from the crowd, keep the black, I say. They're definately not templar.

Cheers mate - I'll have a look into your method.

As soon as I'm able to aquire my Dad's dremil I'll be filing down the shoulder symbols and replacing them with one of my own (which I'm yet to design). The current one doesn't really fit the idea of the Night Wardens and its far too big. I'm also tempted to convert the weapons up a bit - but all in good time. i'll probably get them done up and then come back to them at a later date when I'm bored.

:so_happy:people are considering my ideas for their own armies. That just made my day. Thanks Jac.

But yeah, Be different. My Grey Knights are gonna be a marooney Terracotta with logos in White. If that doesn't work out, Do you mind if I steal this scheme? I actually really like the black on GK.
