There are a lot of options for Space Marine Command Squads. How do people use these squads? What size squad? Give them terminator honors? What heavy weapons? Do you max out the Specialists or are some not worth it? Do you give them infilitrate or any of the other skills?

I've honestly never found the need for a Command Squad. Typically they're used to compliment a HQ char, and I don't like spending that many points (250-300pts) on a secondary HQ slot.

I am tending to pick a Terminator Command Squad instead, since it kind of lets you have some terminators without using an Elite slot. However I am curious to know if I'm missing out on something by not employing a non-termi command squad.

im going to use a termi hq choice for my wolfs 2nd choice for hq will be a ven dred

2 elite slots will be pack leaders leaving me with a 3rd left for termis or soemhting else

i will need a 3rd hq choice which will probably be a rune priest with wolfs or somehtign similar

if you really want to take a command squad the terminator one is better imo. theyre much harder, much much better in combat etc. but, also much more expensive. you also have to buy your captian/master/whatever terminator armour too.

that said, they are a total point sink imo.

I use one when I drop pod my army as it allows the boss to enter via the pod. They also get you a second cheap plasma gun.

veteran sqds are pointless. never see anyone use them.
command sqds are good but a big point sink. Did a Calgar cmmnd sqd with attatched chaplain,vet sgt,bearer,apothecary ,co. champion and 4 sm all decked out in a rhino for
about 1,000 pts. Just to see how insane that would be.
best way to get extra termie sqd in w/o it being elite.

I have also taken termie command squads just to get the extra termie squad. Apart from that I can't see the point.

Command squads look cool but the consensus seems to be that they are not efficient to take. That is a shame. GW should improve them, make them more worth considering.
