i think orcs are rather brutal in league play, although a skilled player can make an elf team get good very fast.

I've always thought dark elves were pretty darn good as a team since they have people who can block even the toughest of opponents and are still quick and nimble.

but they're made of paper. i second orks. brutal dealing and taking abilities. and once you get your odd gobbo to ag 4 you have an able catching critter dodging everything..

Orcs are solid, but I think Lizardmen are better. Lizardmen can dish out the punishment pretty comparably, but they can play the running game a lot better if they need to, and I've always been a big proponent of adaptability as a really desirable quality. The skinks are FAST, and in conjunction with the Kroxigor and the Saurus Warriors, it seems like it's got the best of both worlds. Silibili, the star player Saurus, is pretty solid, too, although he's not as good as Varag Ghoul-Chewer.

right. nothing beats strenght 4, block, mighty blow and jump up
i don't like lizardmen that much. no sure hands, catch and pass. for a running playstyle its pretty lame and orks with two gobbos will outdo you every time. so you got lotsa strenght 4 brawlers. but c'mon.. no block on any player? strenght 3 with block beats strenght 4 without block 67% of the times. two black orks and 4 blitzers will kill your line of scrimmage without effort.

had my first tournament match vs an experienced lizard player back in 2002. i only started playing myself 2(!) days before the tournament. so with no tactic and overall idea i did beat him 2:1. they fare better when they get some skills like guard, block and sure hands. but the first few games lizards will have probs winning even vs gobbos or halflings:wink:

yes please.

well Ive always played orcs. (4 black orcs, 4 blitzes) Ive been thinking lizardmen for a change, not to much of a change but still get me away from using the same team every time. i like the strong players but the orks do lack a bit of speed. a lizardman team is faster in particular the skinks. Ive never had much luck with passing etc so maybe I'm better sticking to with the running game?

just found an old rooster of some long time ago league.

i have had a blitzer at the end with the following stats..

ma: 6
st: 3 +1
ag: 3
av: 9

skills:
block, + 1 strenght, mighty blow dodge(!), catch(!), jump up(!)

i was extremely lucky in rolling :biggrin::biggrin:

he was the top scorer and killer in the whole league with 5 casualities DEAD
but unluckily he got injured early in the last league game. what an untimely demise in his career crowning match. never got such a beast again.
became third out of 11 teams with another ork team on first and an elf team on second rank.
lizardmen made it to rank 9  with an halfling and ork team and halfings on last rank.

Teams like elves struggle in leagues as its hard for them to replace any early losses although after a few games unscathed they can easily dominate so for them its down to luck.
The teams that seem to do best in our leagues are humans (especially norse and amazons with team wide dodge or block), Skaven, lizardmen and orcs although Afew years ago I came second in our league with Halflings but then luck was a great factor in that as I got a few players with dauntless and a couple with strength increases fairly quickly and in my first game one of my pluckier halflings managed against all odds to survive a blitz from a ratogre, just getting pushed back and then with only 1 assist managed to kill the rat ogre, Which does show that luck can determine success especially in the early stages when the basic structure of the team is set.

Chaos can be a good team once it has developed, but to start off with no players with block is a nightmare. You can develop each player into specialists fairly easyand can also have mutations on advance rolls, which can help develop players further.

The chaos warriors start at ST 4 and the beastmen are ST 3 (4 if they blitz with horns), making it a nice bashy team (once you get block for everyone).

Tactics are usually cage and fight until no one can fight back :wild:

Though with faster dodgy teams, you may have trouble trying to keep up.

yeah, but there's only one blitz action per round, so horns isn't really that good. paired with frenzy and block it's an entirely different story though.
yeah, mutations help a big deal for chaos. otherwise they're a pretty tough team to play and i've never seen them make it to leading ranks.

@neilbatte: amazons get brutalized vs. dwarves. no exception. all their dodge skills is worth nothing against those friggin buggers. and they bruise quite easily. i've seen an amazon team losing with so much casualities vs. dwarves that they never managed to recover.

Amazons do struggle against Dwarf teams as does any other low armour teams that rely on dodge but fortunately unless your really unlucky your unlikely to face more than 1 or 2 Dwarf teams in a league and can try to avoid them until your team has a few extra skills. Given a choice of teams for fun games I'd choose halfings and for competative play either Skaven or Orcs.

Orcs and Chaos are strong in leagues [I play Orcs myslef] if they get the right advances [as are dwarves but since they will never really be able to play a passing game it makes less impact later in a league lifetime]. No experience with Lizardmen but they look strong on paper.

The new generic Elf team looks like it could get some mileage.

Best team straight up though, Skaven. Absoulutely no arguement about it they're little bastards and will beat just about any team unless their coach i lame or the other team gets REALLY lucky.

Skaven are, IMO without a doubt the best team.

They have the fastest player in the game (Gutter Runner) and their slowest player is faster than some teams fastest (unless you count Rat Ogres, which I don't, in which case Skavens slowest player is as fast as some other teams fastest).

Added to that, they have access to the weird and wonderful Physical Abilities and, unlike Elves, are cheap enough that you don't much care if one of them keels over and dies on you.

Wood Elves might be a faster team with both their Runners (MV:9) and Wardancers (MV:8), but they're too fragile for their point cost to be effective over the long term.

Once a Skaven team has a couple of Gutter Runners with Leap, they're almost unbeatable short of exceedingly bad luck. This I know from personal experience of playing such a team!
