I'm having problems with basecoating my minis. Often what will happen is that portions of the models will look "furry" for lack of a better explanation. I've tried the GW primer as well as Krylon Black Primer. I follow the general guidelines of keeping the spray in short bursts roughly 12inches away, but cannot seem to obtain consistent results. I live in Austin, TX and it can get very hot here so I was wondering if it could somehow be related to the temperature when I am working in the garage. Any suggestions, comments, ideas would be appreciated.

Edit:Thanks for the info you guys. Now I just have to wait until roughly October to basecoat my minis due to our hot/humid summer. lol

If you're having a day were the humidity is high it can cause the "furry" look

Definitly keep the garage door open when you work, unless it's air conditioned. If it's not, get a few fans in there to cool the air off. Some paints can take more heat, I generally find it's safe to go ten above and ten below the min/max temperatures on the can. If it's really wet and sticky outside, and you really need to spray them, spray quickly and bring them inside. Rest them under a fan that's on it's max setting, and turn on any air purifiers to the max that you might have as well, does wonders for the smell.

The furry look sounds as if your paint may be drying in the air before it hits the mini. You can try moving closer to avoid it, but always test spray on some sprue.

my last mini was looking abit furry too.

after, i realised it was because i was spraying it at 11pm in the freezing cold. the cold air dries the spray particles before they hit the mini. strip it (or even run over it with an old tooth brush and do it again.
