Hi all,

I often visit my local GW shop for advice on which colours to use when starting a certain colour scheme. Fact is over the years I've built up quite a collection of paints but only really know a handful of what bases, shades, layers go well together.

Does anybody know of a chart that advises what I am looking for?

I have looked on Google but not found anything concrete. I get there will always be different options and opinions. I mainly play CSM so I know the basics for gold for black legion or bone options for the horns/skulls and the green for Nurgle. Oh and the pink for my recently painted emperors children.

Any help appreciated.

If you go on the GW site there's tons of colour flow charts for their paint sets. For example:

Gold
Sheer black
Dirty black

Hope this helps, it's been of great use to me as I've not much knowledge on the topic of colour theory.

The best guides for these are the GW painting guides. Its how their system works. I have a couple of the interactive e-books but i assume the paper versions work the same.
They have a list of the paints used along pictures of each step to get the effect. They are very simple to follow and let you know exactly what combinations to use.

However once you get used how to use the paints you end up choosing your own any way.

The money is exactly why I just look at their paint bundles. It's the same information from the How To Paint material, but without instructions and obviously not quite as in depth with regard to getting every single colour in your army down.

Fair enough. I haven't bought the latest 'how to paint book' but have the old version which has been very handy. I just buy the odd specific guide for ideas. I do find them rather expensive for what you get though although they have lots of nice pictures :grin:
