So I've been thinking of getting a Baneblade, what with them bade of solid awesome and all.

But a thought occurs: Can I (a space marines player) even use a Baneblade in non-apocalypse games? It's listed as IG in Apocalypse (even though CSMs get their own varriant) but I don't know what the rules are for it outside of huge battles.

And, assuming I can have one, is it worth it for smaller battles, say in the 1850-2k range?

Normally my entire HS and FA core is a little less than the price of the baneblade with extra sponsons. Would a baneblade be worth giving up a pair of baals <snicker>, an annie and four attack bikes, for example?

The answer to your first question cures the dilemma in your second Galahad.

The Imperial Armour book also lists it as IG. To use one from that book takes a second oganization chart with no compulsory choices allowing your opponent the same and its permission only.

So no its not really worth it, if you gave me that second chart i would just fill it with 600 odd pts of tank killing stuff.

Is it worth it?
Well...it IS one hella cool model.
IMO that's reason enough.
Whether you can finagle it in to your SM list...well...that's a secondary concern.

Switch to an Ordo Malleus/ Xenos/Hereticus List, take one Inquisitor and some henchmen, the Baneblade and maybe a squad of Stormtroopers with your Astartes and you'll be set. (Functionally what I'm doing. It's too cool of a model to pass up)

Cheers!

I've only played my baneblade in 4 40K games in 4 years, and it was really never worth it. Quite simply, Tinkerbell just dominated the game to the extent that my opponents never really enjoyed the game. Complete and total massacres every time.

Until Apocalypse came out, Tinkerbell had been resting uncomfortably in a box.

What a nice name for such a vicious engine of destruction

Thats quite similar to what I found about facing one, but it just became the the target for the game. For the pointage i would rather have three Medusa artillery tanks mind.

You think tinkerbells an odd name Daemons, you ought to look at the rest of Hespithe's stuff in the gallery mate. lol.

I prolly wouldnt use a baneblade outside of apocalypse, too big a point soak.
Now in apocalypse its worth it, you can feild one and still have plenty of room for other crap. The only way would be to have an IG allied blade in your sm force.
Im not looking forward to our first apocalypse game, one player owns 3 baneblades in 2 variants and a wolfhound, I just have about 3k of BT :worried:

The stuff in Apocalypse isn't really intended for games that aren't Apocalypse games. I've playtested a Baneblade in a 2000 point game, and it's outrageously overpowering. Even in a 3000 point Apocalypse game, it's going to be a dominant part of your force. It's got little to do with its points value... ultimately, it's just an outrageously destructive piece of hardware. That 10'' blast can account for about 1000 points alone in victory points if you pick your targets well and the scatter dice cooperate.

You've hit the nail on the head. What's fun for you isn't necessarily fun for your opponent. Keep Baneblades to Apocalypse battles where they belong.
