Hi Everyone! I'm new to the forums here. Just got back into 40k after about a 3 year break.

Hopefully someone here can answer a question I had concerning the new Blood Angel Codex.
I noticed that they made the company captain have set "equipment" with only a small variety is customizing them. For smaller games I normally forgo the captain and just use a Chaplain, but as a side project I want to make a Captain with a Thunder Hammer/Stormshield. After looking at the codex though, I noticed there was not the option of a stormshield and was wondering if it is assumed the cost is included in the cost of the thunder hammer or if it is just not availiable to the Blood Angel captain. Thanks for the help everyone.

It's not available for him.

However, you could a Iron Halo in your base equipment, why would he need a storm shield ?

You could model it and just say, that's the "count as iron halo", no one would possibly interfere with that.

That and having a ranged attack or the option to not use the Thunder hammer if you so choose is a good thing.

Well thanks for the feedback. I'll probably just keep my 2x LC commander as it would only come to 130 points total. Prob fits the BA theme better anyway with a geared up Vet. AS or Honor Guard. Anyone have any other input on SM or BA commanders in general?

Basically, to reiterate what people have said, No, storm shield is not included in the cost for the hammer.
But at the same time you don't need it because the halo provides the same save.

However, as said already, nothing;s stopping you from modeling a shield and having it count as the halo, or even in giving your guy a decorative shield. As a matter of fact, at least the old pewter terminator sergeants all came with decorative shields back in the day. The shield didn't actually do anything, bit it was there and it looked neat.

As a rule though, I don;t like wasting my characters on I1 weapons.

Characters generally have I5 or higher, so giving them the slowest weapon in the game is a dead waste.
Furthermore, while you're waiting to swing the thing, the other guy has already hit you with several I4 power weapons you could have avoided if you had a power sword or something.

Claws, or a power weapon and pistol, are by far the best way to go. Make use of that insane initiative score.

That said, captains are crap compared to the characters we have available. It may be uncreative, but you really can;t go wrong with Mephiston and Lemartes as your HQ, and in smaller games, just Lemmy on his own.

If the idea of using named chararacters makes you squeamish then give them different names and models and have them "Count as" so Assistant Librarian Draculon counts as mephy, while Father O'Malleus and his Shillelagh O' Smitin' is the Irish Catholic version of Lemartes
