I’m new to Warhammer 40k and I’m trying to figure out how the shoot phase works. Here’s the scenario, Tempestus Scion unit has 3 models shoot their hot-shot lasguns at a guardsmen unit with 10 models. Hot-shot lasguns have rapid fire 1 and the guardsman unit is within 12 inches, so shots are doubled for a total of 6 shots from 3 attacks. All wounds go through and now we determine which guardsmen model needs to make saving roles. Here lies the question, do 3 models in the unit role 2 saves due to it being from 3 attacks, or do 6 units in the unit role 1 save for each shot?

In answer to your question, you roll for each wound as an individual save roll. If they pass a save roll then the next save roll is done for that individual model ( if a squad of 1)

However, if in a squad of 2 or more each save roll is issued to the squad, one model at a time. Any fails that lead to a wound are allocated. One model ( if they have multiple wounds) has wounds allocated to it until either a) they pass all remaining save rolls, or b) they die. If b) then the next model in the squad takes the save rolls, until either you run out of save rolls, run out of wounds in the squad and hence the squad is wiped out.

If they are single-wound models, any 1 damage wounds simply cause you to remove a model from the battlefield, until all damage is allocated or the squad is wiped out.

Unless states, wounds do not carry over between squads.
