So me and my mate just brought assualt on black reach. I have decided to have the sm and he has the orks. we had a few test battles and in small numbers i destroy him but in bigger games he can really outnumber me which is a big problem.

So give me some tactics please that will allow me to exploit the orks weaknesses

In smaller games you win because the Marines have 20% more points than the Ork in Assault on Black Reach.


As for what you can do to beat him at higher values. As I recal, your dread has a multimelta? Not much good against a green tide. See if you can replace it with an assault cannon or some other high-rate-of-fire weapon. Also, play on a larger table so that the Orks have to spend longer getting to your lines and being shot at.

Actually i'd say that the orks (generally speaking) have a slight advantage in low point games because their troops are cheap and their very good for their points.
A marine player tho is gonna be nearly maxed out on points just to fill the required FOC slots and wont have points left for his better gear.

Besides that i think its never a good thing to play your enemeys weaknesses but you should play to the strength of yours :grin:.

I would suggest you head over the the tactica forum on the site and browse trough the tactica's for a bit.
Once you have an idea of what you want with your army we could go on and suggest some specialised tactics.

I just bought AoBR for my son and I about a month ago. So far I have found that if i stand static he will obliterate my SM. I have been successful against him so far by splitting the 10 man tac squad into 2 5 man combat squads, put the Sgt and Flamer in 1 for assaulting, leave the ML trooper with the other 4 and deploy them in an area with good LoS. The Termies can deepstrike so I will usually leave them in reserve and DS the shit out of the warboss's mob. As for the dread, the MM isn't worth a crap against the mobs, get him in close asap, I have been targetting the Deffkoptas with the PF asap due to the Rokkit Launcha's and only Ork unit with an AS worth a damn. The SM Captain usually gets added to the 5 man CC squad for more punch. Hope this helps ya. :victory:

Talking about the Blackreach set only.
I've played it with a mate aswell. I say this, keep the greenskins at range as long as possible and be careful of where his units are. Many of them move suddenly, and that brings the shitstorm. The Deffkopters (What's they are called) for eksampel can actually pose a threat to the dread.

Of course when he get's close there is a good tip, You can try to Charge him, Orks really live on they Charge attacks, and it wil also allow you to bring your flamer to bear. The orks are not happy about that one!
Ohh they don't like storm bolters either... Though charging them might be bad.

Now, finally you already know how much trouble his warboss is, yes?
So be careful! That thing rips your marines and your dread.

Last option, if you both feel the orks win to easy, asdk about allowing you to slipt your marines into two groups, one with flamer and your capt'n and one witht he missile launcher. In some cases it's better, in others it's not.

That's what I could think about :)

When playing with higher point values with SM against Orcs, I suggest the balance between heavy weaponary and high fire rate weapons. First things, first, try to destroy his transports. Orcs are menacing enough, you don't want them to go speeding up on the battle field and actually do a 21"-26" assault. (Orcs can do it, there has been a topic before, open-topped vehicle, 12" move, 2" disembark, 1"-6" run move, 6" assault). You want them to walk. So bring along some lascannons and missile launchers, it's also very good to take down the armoured nobz, for the rest heavy bolters, assault cannons, autocannons, bolters. These can take down the ork mobz when they come towards you. You will always be outnumbered, no matter what, space marnies don't tend to be with a lot. Just hope your 2+/3+ save will be the hero when they assault and perhaps defensive grenades so you can hit them first.
