Hi Guys and Gals, as the title suggests, I'm going to be participating in an Apocalypse battle at my local GW this Saturday and I'm really looking forward to it as it will be my first game of 40k with my own miniatures in over a decade. Anyway, I had a Manticore kit that I was going to use in my urban IG list, that has now been turned into a Deathstrike missile launcher. Now you're probably thinking what an idiot, this guy does know that Manicores crap all over the Deathstrike, right? And normally this is the case, however I'm fielding this puppy using these rules and while I know that there is still a chance the whole game could and the thing may not fire, or it could get blown up pretty early by some strength D monstrosity, I think it could lead to some serious Apocalypse fun, and that is what Apocalypse is about really isn't it. Besides buying a Mancore to replace the one I turned into a Deathstrike shouldn't set back too much as I buy all my stuff from Wayland Games.

Now I don't have a lot of miniatures assembled so I'll tell you what I'm taking to the party and you can give me some tactical advice based on that. Infantry wise, I've got the bare minimum required for the datasheet, plus a special weapons squad with flamers. Vehicle wise I've got a Hellhound which I'm going to either assemble as a Hellhound or Banewolf but am undecided as yet which will be more usefull as a support tank for the Deathstrike, yes I know the Deathstrike is seriously long ranged and the Hellhound is short ranged but I figure I can keep it parked next to the Deathstrike an flame anything that gets too close.I've alos got two Sentinel kits that I was planning on turning into the armored variant with plasma cannons that I'll take along if I've got time left over.

So ladies and gentlemen feel free to give me any tactical advice about how to use the formation like whether to deploy it straight away or bring it in as reserves, also tips on keeping it alive long enough to fire it's vortex of doom?

Does a death strike require line of sight? if not then my advice is hide it behind something.

As with all valuable long ranged weapons, put it near the centre of the board, waaay to many units in apocalypse will come in from table edges and that can spoil your day.
Have some units in a fast transport hovering the area ready to defend the vehicle.

Ultimately if it draws too much fire it will die, apocalypse games have enough firepower to make sure vital units die early - my advice here - don't overplay it, make sure your other units are more important to the enemy dead and keep quiet about the destruction it willl wreak, if you are lucky then people will be too wraped up with other units to worrry about a unit which "might" go off, then when it does they are too late.

And I expect photos of the carnage if you do launch that baby!

Unfortunaetly I've come down with a chest infection, I was a little weazy earlier today but it's all gone down hill this afternoon and the only place I'll be going Saturday is the doctors' surgery to get my chest seen to. However I will be fielding my baby at a later date and hopefully I'll have more stuff assembled by then and I'll be bale to be agressive with some of my stuff and this should take the pressure off of the Deathstrike. And don't worry you'll all be the first to know how it goes. On completely different nopte I'm gonna have to convince my Father to pick me up for Niece's Birthday instead of just dropping me off when it's done. Back on topic however the new Chimera/Hellhound/Manticore chassis is an absolute dream to put together, much easier than the Predator I put together back along.

Hope you feel better soon, chest infections suck.

If you have the time available I would suggest considering a few of the vortex deathstrike, that way you can spread them out and reduce the chance of not getting any shots.
In this situation you can keep your opponent running round after the missiles - they should ignore the rest of your army which leaves it to run riot

stick the deathstrike missle in a lot of large cover, mount the infantary platoon in chimeras, backed up by the hellhound (yes i do say go for the hell hound as it ignors cover saves) that way they form your fast defence for the deathstrike just don't put it somewhere that can be reached in 1 turn and it will do well.
p.s. hope u get better soon
