Hi Everyone,
Really happy to join the community and looking forward to getting involved. I'm also relieved to be sharing a rules connundrum I've found in the Admech 9th edition codex. I've tried researching a way to stop this from being a thing, as it doesn't make sense, but I've found nothing in the core rulebook and/or subsequent FAQs/erratas.
This is mainly to do with an interaction between a Tech-Priest Manipulus' Galvanic Field ability (pg 87), which states "...select one friendly <Forge World> CORE unit...add 6" to the range statistic of Galvanic, Arc and Radium weapons (pg 112)...", and the weapon Arc Maul. A Skitarii Alpha Ranger/Vanguard/Serberys Sulphurhound is able to equip an Arc Maul and they are considered CORE, so that's the requirement met. But I've been going mad trying to disprove this.
In an attempt to salve my ongoing madness I thought that perhaps it quoting pg 112 would be an indication of it only including items from that page. However both Galvanic and Radium weapons are detailed in the following page. So once again it isn't exactly a water-tight argument, leading me to think that this could be possible, at least with rules as written. With that my mind starts to conjour images of a Skitarri alpha holding his arc maul aloft, channeling electricity into his foes, fun idea but I'm not convinced it is allowed. In fact, how could you even determine how many attacks the weapon would make at range? Could you simply infer that the attacks stat is used? Doesn't seem plausable.
At the end of the day it matters little, a 6" ranged weapon with 3 attacks, at 6 strength, AP-3 (due to Galvanic field) and 1 damage is hardly broken. However I quite enjoy the conundrum it makes.
I'm looking forward to being educated here, please feel free to call me a madman or point out a simple rule that categorically states that melee weapons can't be used at range. I've only been collecting for a month and have yet to even play my first match, just obsessively re-reading the codex and planning out armies and strategies. So really looking forward to getting involved a bit more in the community.
Thank you for any replies and take care.
